Does anyone have this model, and is it any good?

I was loaned this camera to take on holiday last month and it is very good indeed. It is simple to use but does a lot of things. I found it easy to carry as well which was an important factor. The quality is excellent. That seems an absolute steal at that price but the one in the link is refurbished. Not sure what the normal price is. I bought a Canon S3 when I got back from holiday as I wanted more optical zoom, otherwise the camera is pretty much the same. I have always wanted lots of zoom and all my cameras have been purchased with that as a criteria. The zoom on the 520 is adequate for most people and I still got plenty of good distance shots.

    Hope this helps.

  • Praktica are a well known brand :P they've been making camera gear for a long long time.

    Shame they're crap :D (IMHO!)

    Some good offers at Jessops:

    Olympus Mju 600 - £149.99

Panasonic FX9 - £149.99 (can't find it on the site but should be able to get in store) ... amazing camera.

    Olympus FE170 £99.99

I would say though, buy in a real shop rather than online, so you can actually have a play with the thing first. Different people like totally different cameras, and its well worth getting something you're comfortable with, that you feel confident working etc.

The Olympus MJU600 is only £89.89 at Currys :j
  • Argos have this Canon camera / printer package on offer for £149.98 (was £199.98)

    http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&searchTerms=5605558+&go.x=12&go.y=12

We use it at the school I work in and both the camera and the printer are easy to use, and the picture quality is really good. The only thing that could be a little better is the screen size , but other than that it's a good camera.

I got one of these for about £50 from ebay - camera AND printer - HP brand new but old models - bargain.
Camera is very good for what I paid for it - better than our original digi cam and the printer is also top notch for the price.

The seller usually sells a couple a week, so just keep watching out and don't pay lots - £50-£60 and you'll be happy.

    Hi
Thought I'd add my tuppence-worth......I've got this camera - bought it from Argos as part of a deal with a small photo printer in January this year (I think the deal was under £200.00) - and it's great. Easy to use and I can connect it to the PC, send photos and print them off....I'm a complete techno phobe so this is amazing for me. Good quality photos.
    Hope this is useful.

    OP.
There appears to be a lot of people on here saying " what about this one what about that one"

I would listen only to the people who have the camera, and I tell you why.

While I agree partly with your statement I have to say that if everyone in the world only bought items that were recommended by people who owned them, we wouldn't save much money. Sometimes you have to gamble. The key to this method though is to make an informed gamble. Use internet reviews as the basis of your choice. And make sure you bare in mind the age of the camera. Last seasons cameras often have higher rrp's than more recent cameras because they are still coming down in price. What I do with every product I'm interested in is type the name and model into google and add the word 'review' to it. DPReview is a very good site for camera reviews but cameras.co.uk and many others are also great.

I would say anyone looking for a compact camera wouldn't go far wrong using cameras.co.uk as a guide because it's written for beginners with simple language and clear and to the point reviews. Plus is has a very good price comparison toolbar on the left of each review. Plus a deal of the day.

I'm not even going to recommend a camera because you'll find much better advice on cameras.co.uk and dpreview.com.

    Although...

I bought the panasonic DMC FX9 for a friend earlier this year and the pictures are superb. The newer FX01 is available for only £170 now and it's up for the photography magazine compact camera of the year award (I know, I'm sad but I subscribe to two camera magazine because it's a hobby). It's also the top rated camera on cameras.co.uk.

    Hi

I bought one of these in the USA earlier this year for a good deal more than the Argos price. This is a fantastic camera at super price. Amazon have some great offers on memory cards ie 1 gig for about £20.
