    Looks a good deal - I have a Canon - you won't be disappointed.
  • Praktica are a well known brand :P they've been making camera gear for a long long time.

    Shame they're crap :D (IMHO!)

    Some good offers at Jessops:

    Olympus Mju 600 - £149.99

Panasonic FX9 - £149.99 (can't find it on the site but should be able to get in store) ... amazing camera.

    Olympus FE170 £99.99

I would say though, buy in a real shop rather than online, so you can actually have a play with the thing first. Different people like totally different cameras, and its well worth getting something you're comfortable with, that you feel confident working etc.

  • The f30 is brilliant :D I only didnt mention it because you're looking at about £200, a bit over the OP's budget?

Does anyone have this model, and is it any good?
  • Digital cameras can be quite high in prices, so I would suggest maybe an online wholesale store. You can order it online and have them ship it to you. One place I have used is https://www.digital-camera-superstore.com
    Hope that helps.

    OP.
There appears to be a lot of people on here saying " what about this one what about that one"

I would listen only to the people who have the camera, and I tell you why.

I had ( still have ) a Kodak dx4530 that took really good photos. This broke down after 18 months with a very common problem with this camera that costs as much to fix as the camera is worth. I hated Kodak.

I then decided that I needed a camera so investigated a lot what was available ( I investigated the Kodak purchase a lot ) and got good reviews on here about a Samsung 7mp camera that was available using a ripoff way of getting it. So I paid not so much for this camera but it is rubbish. It was meant to cost 199,I think, but I would not give 12.99 for it. It has a bad delay, it cannot photo purple, the flash is crap and the software takes over your computer.

So listen to people who have the camera.

A camera may sound nice but it is down to how it performs

  • Hi!
OK - someone above recommended the Panasonic DMC-FX9, I've had one for four months now and am happy with it. It has replaced my aging 'size of a brick' olympus which had been alright.

The pictures it produces I think are pretty good, the anti-shake feature means I get fewer blurry shots than the olympus, it will comfortably go in my pocket and the large bright LCD screen is wonderful. I don't know about how good the software is that comes with it as I haven't installed it - the olympus stuff was horrible... The lag between pressing the button and taking the photo is still there - if you pre-focus it's pretty good though, but again even if you don't it's a step forward over my old one.

I'll probably have some shots on photobox taken with it if you want - let me know and I'll dig out a URL.
