Anti ding is definately a pain!

The tickets are about 14 pounds or 20 on the door I think Galvanizer.
  • Good Luck Sarah - Hope bubs is a decent weight for you after your IUGR worries.

    Internals in labour
    - I was induced initially with a pessary (3 put in) and had regular checks to see how many cm's I was and sweeps and none of them bothered me in the slightest so I think it very much depends on the individual.

At least it's not a pain in the ar*e now though! - they used to do it in the bot after delivery and I found it hurt! - perhaps I just had a shaky handed midwife - to add insult to injury both my children turned out to be negative blood type like me.

Better to be on the safe side though.

May check out the details for the show

No... they did not tell me, they just said it was safe :(

I had to stay in hosp until her blood tests were showing blood sugar was ok, it's not a major deal, but better to know in advance that it MIGHT be an issue. Not a long term prob for baby or anything.
Yeah I was worried someone was gonna say I should have it lol. Was just looking for reasons to talk myself out of it. I guess I should just get on with it. There are worse things in the world after all!

    Its not that bad, honest.
I would say there's no need to have it unless you are showing any symptoms... But then you listed 2 of the symptoms I would be looking out for... So maybe I would be inclined to just go through with it in your position...

Names are a real sticking point for us at the moment... We have a couple of boys names chosen (Malachi or Caleb) but cannot agree on a girls at all... We have Emma that we both agree is nice... But it's not the one...

    Love Emma, and Caleb

    Bargain Princess - congratulations!:j:j:j

I thought that you can request minimal exams? After all, what they want and what you let them do are 2 entirely different things...
I guess you probably can seeing as in theory they can only do what you let them, however if they have no other way to tell if the labour is progressing than by whether the cervix is dilating appropriately then it might be unavoidable.

I've been told if I have a dry land birth unless there's cause for concern then I don't need to have any internals. And the midwife said at my hospital they are not routine (but do need to be done for the pool so you don't end up going in too early and slowing things down), but she said that most internals she gives are due to the request of the woman in labour. So I've been quite reassured that they won't keep asking me to do them.

But I understand that some hospitals do do them routinely. That's how it appears on OBEM. Whether it's the filming that's making it look like they have them all the time I don't know.
Maybe it's another thing that differs from hospital to hospital.

Never really realised how much things that are happening to the same people can be treated so differently depending on where you are than in pregnancy and birth.

So far some big differences I've read about purely on this thread and the parent thread are:
Whether the hospital will 'admit you' before 3cm dilated, or send you home again.
How long or frequent your contractions must be before they'll admit you (eg, mine says must be lasting 40 secs, regardless of frequency).
In respect of VBAC, whether they will use induction procedures if overdue or go straight for an elective CS (mine don't induce).
How many routine antenatal appointments you are offered.

I actually had a longer list in my head when I started writing that - forgotten them now!

Weird to think that you could live a few miles away and come under a different trust and your whole pregnancy, birth and aftercare could be treated differently depending on their 'rules'.

I know - I hadn't realised how hospitals and NHS trusts differed before I started posting on these threads.

Another one - Screening tests in Pregnancy offered - I was offered the nuchal fold scan and combined bloods screening on the NHS but lots of trusts don't apparently offer this and you would have to go private

But as they manage at other hospitals, then I see no need to go along with it just because it's what they do iyswim.

I'm not trying to be picky or awkward btw. :D I actually have no idea what the procedure at my hospital is yet, but I'm working out what I do and don't want now.

We don't get nuchal fold here yet, but there are signs up saying there's training going on now though. I did get the quad blood test though. Quite glad I did, although the borderline Spina Bifida result caused a bit of a worry, as my Down's result is something like 1 in 5400 rather than 1 in 705 for my age.

Oh and before I forget again, good luck Sarah.

    Congrats BP.

MI3 hope the sweep does the job.

Just got back from my very first mw appointment, she says i'm 8+1 and due ont he 4th September. One of you lot could have warned me about how much stuff they give you to take home, i now have two massive folders of stuff to read...sooooooo excited though! Got lots of leaflets with free stuff attatched so just have to work out wnere i get each thing and then when i can go and get them.

I have my scan booked for the 21st February i will be exactly 12 weeks and it's one of my very best friends birthdays so i think that's a good omen! I talked to the midwife about my medical history and she says i may have to go under consultant care but she's not sure so she's going to see if i do or if i get bounced back to the midwife team. I am hoping for the latter. Right off to make myself a cuppa now and get on with sifting through all this info!
