hilarious comments you posted there. Very likely from trolls since Metrobank in reality do take on anyone they can identify via the ER/CRAs, and who have a clean CRA file.

I am no particular fan of Metrobank myself - for example, I think it is completely ridiculous in 2013 that you cannot apply for a current account online. I also dislike their online banking, and the fact that their "Faster Payments" are anything but fast. Nonetheless, I (probably like many others) have an account there for the fee-free debit card abroad.

Surely people must be able to open up an account remotely though, I thought under the disability act banks had to offer this.

People who "had been assaulted in a riot on the way there" are probably mixing up Metrobank with a rave party they were trying to get to - but even it they had been, it's hardly Metrobank's fault.

You have to apply for their current account in person in a Metrobank "store". I think you can apply for their ISA online.

Aside from that, I am not sure how the disability act would force any business to do business online?

Not online, I just thought banks had to allow an account to be opened by post atleast as if someone was disabled enough they couldn't leave their home. I know they probably wouldn't be interested in the Metro Bank if this was the case but I thought that was the law.

Why would a bank be forced to take applications by post?

(Very 1970's if they had to, anyway)

I think when you bring a huge 'Americanism', based on loving your bank, dogs and customer-hugging, to the UK there will automatically be a level of skepticism/cynicism because the UK public isn't used to it. For that reason, there will be a fair amount of Mickey taking.

Two-three years on, there are still signs that systems and training aren't up to scratch. I went back to the Reading [STRIKE]store[/STRIKE] branch a couple of weeks ago, and it appeared that they had 'upgraded' their branch computers to Samsung tablets (with docking stations/keyboards/mice). They were naturally encrypted, however the issue was if the last user hadn't logged out, the staff member had to call IT to get a 32 digit code to log back in again. Imagine my amusement waiting 15 minutes for the member of staff to get through to IT and incorrectly put the 32 digit code in wrong, twice.

It's also a shame that their rudimentary online-banking interface still hasn't received the long anticipated, promised and awaited upgrade.

Also, has anyone applied for a credit card from them? The system seems a little farcical to me:

[Staff] What limit would you like?
[Me] Whatever you can give me.
[Staff] You have to give me a figure.
    [Me] Whatever the computer says.
[Staff] I need to know a figure.
    [Me] Oh, okay £10k
[Staff] You'll have to go lower...
    [Me] £9,500
    [Staff] Lower...
    [Me] £9k.

and so on, until we reached an agreeable figure.

    Slightly daft in my opinion.

I think they are trying to make banking a more pleasant experience :-) When you try something new it is not going to be to everyone's taste. They seem a kind bunch of folk trying to win customers over to their quirky ways!.

Indeed. I found myself surprised and delighted.

  • joined the revolution, they are not really bank according to another high street name, just trading as one. i was upgraded to a current account by the manager only to be told by letter this had not happened. i dont have a direct debit on account but fear not they told me our card works in 250,000 uk points and can use it anywhere!!! the truth is the only use for said card is for buttering toast!! you can only use it online if the company is registered here, so ebay pay pal all the usual places you may use it dont work!!
i had 2 payments taken out in error , the second being a duplicate, when speaking to the phone company they said it was a long process to return take at least a month, your bank can reclaim it within hours they said, joy metrobank agreed so a week later when it was not returned i called the bank, they told me we are sorry it takes at least 3-4 weeks, we are really sorry, sorry is there slogan, we are metrobank and we are sorry, we are sorry that we are sorry, not that we misold you the account , not that we were very inacurrate about the said mastercard, or that when ever you speak too someone they never say the same thing twice, even with the we handle the change over from your old account , i got so frustrated with change over it was taking so long i called everyone myself , they kept losing connection.!!! even when i asked them to transfer my rent over too my landlord yes sir no problem, it ends up with me withdrawing cash from the bank, going to another bank and paying in sheesh, yes we are metro bank and yes we are "sorry"
