New Cam Belt Price?

That is an utterly ridiculous quote. Yes it needs doing at 75k miles OR X (I'm guessing 5) years whichever comes first, so if its 5 its due. Its only a clio, not a ferrari so anywhere worth their salt could could do it. From reading this old thread looks like about £250 tops, for the full kit. The belt is just that - the belt, but the belt is held on by pulleys and tensioners which are often made of plastic, so are as likely if not more likely to break than the belt itself, so you should make sure the full kit is done. Also most people do the water pump at the same time because you've already done all the work getting to the cambelt so you should do the water pump at the same time - similarly bad things will happen if that breaks, and the actual part is quite cheap.angela110660 wrote: »have been quoted just over £600 for the cambelt change on my Clio Campus 1.2 (2006). It has done 57K miles but the dealer workshop said that it is normally changed at 75K miles so why is he pushing to do it - could it be car age? Also people are mentioning having a kit done at the same time - please explain what this would be and would the £600 probably include this do you think? When we rang the garage the guy was a bit pushy so got fed up talking to him and didn't ask all the questions.
Thank you.
So get some quotes for the full kit with the water pump - preferably from independent garages recommended by friends, and avoid that main dealers.0 -
do as the rev says
full kit including tensioner and water pump and do it soon because which ever engine you have fitted if its goes and these cars do go often then you are looking at a new head usually and many valves which arent cheap and new collets if you dont want it going again
the quote you have been given is a joke though so as the rev says, find a garage recommended that has real life men working in overalls rather than techs with smocks on bonus0
