Aggreed my local garage, none specialist but they do loads of them, quoted £250 for the lot inc pulleys etc. That was for a 2004 onwards megane diesel.

Rule of thumb appears to be a 50% saving by using your head, and please don't assume the main dealer is the only one that has the tools or is going to do the best job. In most cases the work is done by a spotty nerd and only checked by a mechanic, if your'e lucky:D
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

have been quoted just over £600 for the cambelt change on my Clio Campus 1.2 (2006). It has done 57K miles but the dealer workshop said that it is normally changed at 75K miles so why is he pushing to do it - could it be car age? Also people are mentioning having a kit done at the same time - please explain what this would be and would the £600 probably include this do you think? When we rang the garage the guy was a bit pushy so got fed up talking to him and didn't ask all the questions.
    Thank you.

Indeed -- £200-250 seems to be the going rate regardless of make/model.

And let's face it, this is a Clio we're talking about, not some complex exotic model. Any reputable backstreet garage is going to have seen dozens of these cars.

£450 is daylight robbery, although it's not completely surprising as it's what Mitsubishi asked for when I demanded that the water pump and tensioner were done at the same time.
