"Can I drive someone else's car?
Like an increasing number of other insurance providers our insurethebox private car policy does not cover you to drive other cars, unless the car in question has been loaned to you by the motor trade or our approved car hire supplier while your own car is being serviced or repaired. If you wish to drive another car then please ensure the owner of the car extends their insurance to include driving by you.

How do you know who was driving?
We cover the vehicle along with all those named as drivers on your policy. We do not ask you to tell us who was driving at any particular time. This means that miles are deducted regardless of who is driving the car, and that your driving behaviour (as measured by the Clear Box) and Bonus Miles will be influenced by the driving of all named drivers on the policy. "

But the line on modfications is good though, any factory fitted extra.like alloys, or leather, is ok.

This is the answer I got from them about the speed, sorprisingly they state that their margin error is less then the speed cameras on the road lol

Thanks for your email. I will detail below the things we measure within the box, hopefully this will answer the majority of your query. In regards to the recording of info we will use this to build up a picture of the individual driver over the course of the year so that we can look to reduce policies if the information shows us that the driver stays within the speed limits, we have a very minimal margin for error so the best advice we can give is stay below rather than go over the speed limit. If you have any further questions though please call us on 0333 123 1308.

· Speeds – This is where we look to make sure you are keeping within the agreed road limits i.e. doing 27mph in a 30mph will look to earn you miles driving 33mph in a 30mph will lose you miles as this will look as though you were speeding.
· Times of day you drive – This is where we will asses and encourage you to drive at quieter times (your personal circumstances allowing)
· Braking and Acceleration – We will look at how hard you brake and accelerate to make sure you are not getting to close to other cars or aggressively driving the car.
· Motorway driving – This is just a combination of the above but you are less likely to have a accident on a motorway
· Alerts – This have you had any accidents or have we had any accident alerts so again looking at your driving ability

Many Thanks

Doesn't this also means that they stating that will increasse the premium if the car is driven on high speed etc is somehow an unfair increase, if they are gonna increase it on the base of a box with that doesn't provide accurate info then this can be a problem.

I think that is a good question, but suspect that with the contract of insurance with them you are basicaly agreeing to them making changes based on the data gathered by the box, so you are agreeing to whatever accuracy they say it has.

It seems fair.
I've always advocated that tarnishing all 17 year olds as boy racers is unfair, so this is the chance to prove you're not.
