I'm sure that when you factor into the payment of JSA, council tax benefit, housing benefit, child tax credits, working tax credits........I'm quite certain that the minimum wage regulations would be met. And oh......if you're on JSA for a year, and only have to work for one month......the wage works out quite a bit above minimum wage!

i am over 25 and im currently claiming jsa. from what i read, that the compulsory work thing, is £30 to £40 for a 30 hour week, and i currently receive £65, but dont get housing or council tax benefit, so from that i would have a cut in my benefits for a month. so i be either working for over a £1 an hour or over £2 an hour if its for the current benefit, this will not work and is bound to fail as it cost more money to sort out

I thought long and hard about these proposals and I tell you its a brilliant idea as after a year on job seekers doing my own thing and resting I thought to myself "fcuk" I am not having them telling me what to do and checking up on me so last Monday I started doing my CV on Wednesday it was up on the agencies website, a few phone calls, an interview on Thursday a telephone call Friday afternoon and started work this Monday on a 7 week Windows 7 rollout.

I didn't want to work and thought about another 6 months off but the threat of having my benefits cut or stopped got me back to work.

A warning to claimaints - the media are incorrectly reporting (lying basically) that claimaints who are sanctioned under these new proposals will not have the right to appeal - this is a lie as the white paper clearly states the right to appeal a sanction under these new proposals will still exist.
[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.

The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that

  • Depends what your out goings are, bus fares and so on.

If you had to travel 10 miles for instance, you could be a hell of a lot out of pocket.

But that is where you and many others will come unstuck. As per the Daily Mail today, it is envisaged that refusal to attend an interview, refusal to take up a job offer could result in the loss of benefit for 3 years!!

So, the time is coming when you won't have a choice even if it means you are only 10p better off before travelling expenses.

Travel costs for work are NOT taken into account when deciding if a job is right.

I spent a good deal of my working life travelling 2hrs+ to work and 2hrs+ back home AND working for at least 8 hours a day.

My last job left me in debt as I had to drive 130 miles a day to and from work and buy a second car to do it in! But I enjoyed the job so the money factor didn't come into it.

So you didn't mind taking someone's job in the town you were working in?

Someone more suited as they didn't have as far to travel?

Don't worry - there was nothing valid following on from that.

Thanks for that, I had the nagging feeling I may have jumped the gun and missed something truly astounding.

    By giving you nothing.

Also by reducing benefits it will make work attractive as there will be a bigger gap between even the lowest paid work and benefits

Trouble with this is the cost of living, rents, utility bills etc...
