    And to you too, taxi!

Part of of my plan is in place - have opened a regular saver with First Direct - 8% pa for a year, as long as you don't make a withdrawal - so it is there in an emergency if I really need it, but will hopefully stay there until this time next year. I have set it up for £250 a month for now, and as this is less than my barclayloan was, it shouldn't impact too much on the day to day stuff.

It is a good start, in any event - if I can keep that going for the year it will give me a bit of a cushion to feel more comfortable with.

It does mean, however, that budgeting is crucial - the envelopes are still working for me, but I need to stay well in control of them in order for this to work.

In a couple of months, if all is going well, I will set up a standing order to the mortgage by way of an overpayment - it is tempting to do this right away, but I would rather take things one step at a time, to ensure that I don't end up getting short towards the end of the month and incurring things like bank charges again, which thankfully are now simply a thing of the past.

Good plan Hypno, also you deserve a bit of breathing space to just enjoy life a little before tightening the belt again.
