Morning all - had a great night last night.....3 points from the football and a great evening with the guys. Only downside was that as my car refused to start in the morning, I had to get a cab home last night, adding to the cost, but still all within budget so all good really.

Nothing else to report.....hope you have a good day, everyone!

  • Hope the car is OK now and something as simple as an interior light left on.

I've not yet investigated.....as soon as I knew it wasn't going to start, I had to make a mad dash for the bus.....then went straight from work to meet the guys before the match.

I will put it on charge overnight tonight, but this is the 3rd or 4th time it has happened in the last few weeks so I think I really need a new battery instead.

    Ah well.....

As reminded by benben, there is £5 in my account from the Halifax, so that has been transferred over to my savings pot.....

Re my envelopes - everything, whether food, cleaner, haircut, trip to the match, night with the girls, etc has a budget. Anything left over from each envelope is then put into another envelope marked "surplus", from which any unforeseen costs are also taken. So, for example, DS decided he needed a haircut, and I am never one to stop a 15 year old from looking half way decent, so he took the required £8 from the surplus envelope because I hadn't budgetted for it elsewhere.

I am hoping that in the next few weeks, the "surplus" envelope contains enough to buy me a new ipod and a decent dock.....so, that is my incentive not to blow my budgets and sneak the next envelope open in advance each time I have something planned.

So far so good.....the sweepstake winnings from the weekend were added to the surplus envelope, and so far I haven't gone over budget anywhere, even with the cost of cabs etc, so I hope to have my ipod within the next few weeks.....:D

  • Well done on the envelopes.

If you do need a battery find a local wholesaler that the traders and public can use as they are usually a lot cheaper than Halfords or a main dealer. I've bought batteries at £60 instead of £90.

Get it tested. It's literally only a few seconds, and then you'll know for sure. Otherwise it could be your alternator going.

I'm going for the "leave it on the driveway and get the bus for a few days" option.....:D

Then will get it sorted in a few days.
