I can understand your frustration , but if you are with a decent agency you should find full time work inthe end.
I admire anyone who finds themselves in this position and are prepared to work, any decent agency consultant will work really hard to find you full time employment in the long run and keep you in work for the short term.0 -
:jI understand you don't want a week here or a week there but that is what some agencies offer.
If they are decent and you are a good temp what they try to do is keep you in work and that might mean moving around with one week contracts.
Eventually you might find that the one weeks work turns into 2 or 3 with the end result of a permenant job due to your record with the agency.
Any agency you register with who phones up after 5pm with one night shift that night are a joke and tell them where to go .My OH registered and had this from one agency .. I told them where to go!

We can agree on something here for a change Cavework. I have had two agencies in my area recently who have had the cheek to ask me if I was prepared to do 2 hours work at a company 25 miles away from my home. I thought that may be illegal as I thought a booking had to be for a minimum of one day. Also another one called me at 6.30 AM for one days work at another town 20 miles away. They also had the cheek to say as I was a car driver if I could offer other workers lifts. I told them where to get off and as I mentioned earlier have never been offered anything since from these agencies inspite of being in contact with them. As I said, turn work down and they appear to bin you for life.0 -
It used to be at least an 8 hour day and the client was charged this. I admit this was 21 years ago but this is still really poor in my opinion.
as for giving other temps lifts? unless they are friends working on the same job.. refuse
REGISTER WITH every AGENCY IN YOUR AREA AND TELL THEM ABOUT ANY WORK YOU HAVE DONE FOR THESE OTHER AGENCIES. Tell them how long you have been on the books and what work has been offered.
I am really annoyed by what you have said... make these agencies work for you!
some consultants are as much use as a chocolate tea pot.. never having any experience in a true working enviroment and are too interested in the business suit and the targets set by their employers.:mad:0 -
I only worked for 1, It was the first agency I had ever used, It was minimum wage yea but they only took me on due to me holding 2 FLT licenses, The work I actually did for them wasn't even the work I actually signed up to do, Like I said on post earlier. I signed up for a job that didn't exist and then after a couple of full time jobs they started only giving 4 hours a day 2 days a week which was uselesshartcjhart wrote: »But that are what agencies on the whole are for,to supply firms with people for a week or two,why is that no good?you do 2wks here 3 weeks there etc
as for minimal wage I agree that a lot of migrant workers work for that and they see it as a GOOD wage
have the agencies offered you work at NMW?0 -
The agency I used was crap and I know this now due to my own experience and plus mates who have used them, The problem I have is that you don't have the choice to actually use the agency's, If you go onto the jobcentre website and go to FLT vacancy's you will see that 99% are through agency's only, That's really the thing I don't like, the choice is taken out of your hands,Jay 1978

Did I say this? No.hartcjhart wrote: »so what is the problem of being on multiple agency books? NOTHING, the more agencies you are with the more chance of getting work,
My observation says what it says. Nothing more.your view point is like saying' It's only worth looking on one website for work"Never underestimate the mindless force of a government bureaucracyseeking to expand its power, dominion and budget"Jay Stanley, American Civil Liberties Union.0 -
I suppose a booking is for a minimum of one day - but a day could be one hour.:j[/B]

There's no law that says temp bookings have to be for at least a day. However an agency may have a term of its business with a client that they will charge for a minimum of, say, seven hours however long is actually required on site.0 -
Agencies are not there to help the unemployed find jobs as their priorty is to service their clients needs.
And the sooner everyone realises this, the better

I totally agree, Agency's need some kind of incentive to employ British workers,
The incentive would be if they would actually accept and then turn up for the work that was offered. Sadly, too many won't as they'll loose their benefits.
And that's a story i'm hearing every day now from British workers. Rarely hear it from an eastern european

And that my dear boy is why you've not been offered any more work. It's fine to decline work - but theres no need to be rude about it. Manners cost nothing
