Are agency's destroying this country ?

Oh FGS employment agencies have been around forever, even through the ' good times' when people could leave one job and go directly to another.
Agencies work almost under the same rules as employers but you have the choice to take it or leave it.
Yeah Right!!!!!. There were tons of employment agencies around before 1980 weren't there ?. if you ever have a problem working in a job at a company for an agency, do not expect them to help you or take your side because they are too far up their clients Backsides. As you say, you have to take it or leave it. Also if you turn down work for whatever reason even for a day, most of them will bin you for life.0 -

Andy .. you seem to have some issues maybe from one Agency?
I don't know, but your black and white comments based I think on your experiences with some agencies/ agency are not representitive of experience of all the Recruitment companies in the UK.
No they don't all bin you for life just because you turn down the first or second offer of work placements .. keep turning down offers of work then maybe offers of work will be reduced.0 -
So true mate, The agency I was working for never ever contact me and this is despite me applying for other jobs that they have been advertising, The jobcentre won't have it tho. I have explained to them that its pointless going for a vacancy if its under this certain agency but they won't have itYeah Right!!!!!. Jay 1978..
Can I ask how many agencies in your area you have registered with?0 -
I understand you don't want a week here or a week there but that is what some agencies offer.
If they are decent and you are a good temp what they try to do is keep you in work and that might mean moving around with one week contracts.
Eventually you might find that the one weeks work turns into 2 or 3 with the end result of a permenant job due to your record with the agency.
Any agency you register with who phones up after 5pm with one night shift that night are a joke and tell them where to go .My OH registered and had this from one agency .. I told them where to go!

So then you're admitting that if there were no agencies, you would be out of work as the company would not want to employ you directly even on a short term contract. So that means the company cannot afford to pay you a decent wage but the agency can offer you a lower wage by paying a pittance. Thirty years ago you wouldn't have even found the term Employment Agency in the dictionary and workers were much better off with job security, wages and employment conditions etc. Employment agencies exist so that employers can abuse and exploit the jobless.
I do not call 20 pound plus an hour a pittance do you?when I work I earn MORE than the companies full time employees
I have worked for agencies for over 20 years and am VERY VERY happyI

About 3, 1 I actually worked for and the other 2 the job's was week contracts just to cover sick so I didn't want that. A few month work is fine but you can't do a week here and a week there
But that are what agencies on the whole are for,to supply firms with people for a week or two,why is that no good?you do 2wks here 3 weeks there etc
as for minimal wage I agree that a lot of migrant workers work for that and they see it as a GOOD wage
have the agencies offered you work at NMW?I
