Iphone 4 blue screen of death
Hi
Got an Iphone 4 last weekend on Vodafone and it's already gone wrong. it keeps crashing, the screen goes blue and then the phone has to be restarted.
Has anyone else had experience of this?
I've just come back from the APPLE store and he had not seen it before despite multiple posts online about it. He failed to restore it from one of their machines and he tried several times. Apple were willing to exchange it for a reconditioned phone, which I'm not happy to expect a second hand phone as it were 5 days after getting a brand new one.
I've got to take a trip to Vodafone tomorrow to see what they will do. Obviously they have to do something about it either exchange it for a new handset or send it of. Has anyone taken a faulty handset back to a Vodafone store (any model)? Will they exchange it or send it off to be repaired?
What are my consumer rights?
The product I've brought is faulty and does not serve it's purpose, It's within 14 days of buying it and the product is guaranteed by Apple for 12 months.
I just don't want to be fogged off by Vodafone tomorrow afternoon (Thurs), I assume if they do send it off then they will provide me with a replacement handset even though I've opted not to take out insurance.
Any advice welcome

Vodafone should exchange your phone for a new one, so long as you are within 28 days of taking delivery (which it would appear that you are) After 28 days, they only offer a repair service.
Give VF a shot, and let them deal with it. They're the ones that you're contracted with, so they should take ownership of the problem.
Also - If you haven't taken VF insurance, they won't provide a temporary replacement.
Good luck!

Pleased to announce Vodafone happily exchanged it for a new one (although it did take them some time to process it through the computer!)
I phoned 191 customer services after posting the first message and they said they would do a retail box exchange within 7 working days which they did. I think this applies to all phones brought from the Vodafone stores
Case closed and replacement phone. fingers crossed this one is not faulty.0 -

I don't mean to moan but this is a pain to read. You know 1st of all 28 exchange perioid isn't the norm for every company so you prolly know so i'll shut up there lol. But after the company exchange period the networks are at no legal cause to have to send it away for repair. They all do it out of good will and convience. If the networks want to they can all turn around and say tough you need to go back to the manufacturer yourself and deal with it
So they don't really HAVE to take ownership. Also this sort close mindedness is what creates repair issues. You know if you walked into a service station with handsets its a MUCH quicker turn around time. If you took your nokia/sony/samsung/whatever model to one of their service centres its normally less than a 3day turn around time (always has been for me). If you goto the network its 2-4 weeks.
And with an iPhone after the network exchange period if you just goto Apple its swapped on the spot.
Blackberry being the odd one out they HAVE to go back to your provider.0 -

Sale of Goods Act puts the onus on the seller not the manufacturer. If a network tells you to go to the manufacturer then they are actually passing the buck.If I've helped you please show your appreciation by using the "Thanks" button

Are you arguing just for the sake of it?
VF will replace a phone for a brand new one if you are within 28 days of your contract starting - the OP is, and this is why I advised him accordingly.
VF also offer a repairs service for phones outside of this 28 day period - again - the network takes responsibility to get the phone repaired, either by their own repair service or via the manufacturer.
I really don't see or understand why you are being so pedantic.
In cases like this, (as has been demonstrated), the consumer will get a much better result by going back to the provider, rather than going to the manufacturer - the OP got a NEW phone, rather than having to settle for a reconditioned model from Apple.
Not everyone has a 'service station' close by, and Apple stores are still pretty much few and far between - whereas VF have stores on just about every high street.
As far as I'm concerned - the OP got good advice, and is now happy with their NEW replacement phone.0 -

lol @ Apple Experience hehe.....we in the deepest darkest North East, have only just got an Apple Store, and the only experience of them I've had is....can I sell you our (overpriced) AppleCare warranty with that sir, as without it, you only get limited support, and this will extend your guarantee too. If I've just paid £600 for an iPad, I think I have a right to expect that with normal use, it should last longer than 12 months anyway...or is that me in my deluded world0

And acting against the law too!
Heretic_osjc - please look here for responsibilities under Sale of Goods - http://whatconsumer.co.uk/shops-responsibility/

Now, not wishing to add you to my list of forum adversaries, I do think that your 100% incorrect knowledge of the SOGA does make this look like the kettle calling the pot black! By that I am referring to your post above which contains the following totally incorrect comment
"But after the company exchange period the networks are at no legal cause to have to send it away for repair. They all do it out of good will and convience. If the networks want to they can all turn around and say tough you need to go back to the manufacturer yourself and deal with it" Not so if, as in this case, the OP purchased from the network.
If you are, as you say, responsible for selling mobile phones, then please ensure that your employers send you on the appropriate courses for the role.0 -

Yeah, someone told me the Apple experience had landed in the Metro Centre; is that right? I'm a Sanddancer by birth and all my family still live up there. If I've helped you please show your appreciation by using the "Thanks" button

yeah - there's one in the Metro, and one in the new Eldon Square extension.
They're always jammed full of people, but I'm not sure how many people just go in to play and send emails vs actually buying something!0
