First rule - NEVER tell the school where you're taking the kids.
We told our kids' teachers that we're going away in March, that it was the only time I could get off work, and that the in-laws had already booked the holiday for us.
It leaves the school with no option but to accept.

    depends on their policy...

my sons primary school will allow up to 10 days in a school year authorised

but there's a nearby school that doesn't allow ANY days holiday in term time at all,it all goes down unauthorised
even for a family wedding etc! :(

    back from our Disney trip
no problems using the tickets when not used the ferry

    ( i was worrying a tad lol !)

had a good time but prob won't go in feb again
love halloween and the decs / theming,so this time it felt a bit "flat" IYSWIM

no characters wandering around ,and quite a lot of refurbs etc going on,fences up etc and even on the castle too :(
but i guess they have to do it sometime!

still had a fab time though and especially as we only paid £29.50 for 2 ad 2 ch and should have been approx £200 for one day hoppers!!

Hope they do it again :)

The school does have options, they can (a) put it through as an agreed family holiday, (b) a not agreed family holiday (c) an unauthorised absence. If its a one off, unauthorised absences don't really affect anything at primary age. However, they can also pass the information on to the attendance officer and also, if the child's attendance dips below a certain level can request that the local authority fine you. Remember that each registration counts as one absence so each day you have off is 2 absences so they soon mount up. Some schools also take into account how much time the child has had off sick before before authorising term time holiday. Also if you are late for school, and the registers have closed this is also counted in the statistics as an unauthorised absence.

We have a family who took holiday in the first term the child attended and tried the same tactic, then extended a Christmas holiday by a week, the attendance of the child is being closely monitored by the head and with be referred to the LEA should they take more time off.

Sounds like you are lucky to have a lenient school!

We go in 16 days time and I've been googling for recent reviews, most of which have not been positive.
Sounds like they've let it get a bit run down recently.

A few other comments about characters not wandering around, but when we went in November 09 you had to be in the right place at the right time to catch them. Could just be that people weren't in those places. I know the timetable tells you which characters will be out and about.

We're not going on the Sun deal, so if it's not as good as we hope, I'll be asking for some form of refund.

i'm just peed of that she leaves it until a couple of days before we go to deny his absence! we're going anyway & i have looked it up on line & it says you can get fined with a penalty notice if you take 5 days off in one term which he won't have because it's the end of term friday! his school's headteacher has ony been there a couple of years & the school has gone down hill since she's been in charge with many parents changing their childrens school! i think the way she worded the letter was very rude & i'm going to write back to her telling her as much!
    xx

The school is shooting them selves in the foot, any unautherised absence looks bad on the schools ofsted report and looks bad hence why most schools allow up to 10 days autherised.

We have just come back from 2 weeks in florida 5 days in term time which were autherised holiday and no issues.
Though our children do have very good attenance records normally.

Also if your child is under 5 or 5 in the school term you are currently in, you do not need to ask permission as the child does not legally have to attend school until the first term after the childs 5th birthday, so i am told.

Good luck with that lol !

no it's still fab,but there was def a lack of characters this time, even the planned meet n greets....

but TBH my kids are older so not a big deal for them, but it just adds to the feel of the place IMO

we still had a really good time but not a patch on Halloween / Xmas season so prob won't go in low season again

I hope you have a good time :)
