New luxury car! Any tips

By Joe I think I've got it! Very different, pretty rare, ultimate comfort and luxury, a fine diesel engine straight out of the Jag S Type and very nearly solid depreciation.
What could it be...? Why the Citroen C6 of course. Buy it!

When I'm in London I don't give a second glance to Lamborghinis, Ferraris, Bentleys and Porsches.
Now a C6 I would look twice. Same with a Renault Avantime.The man without a signature.0 -

I like that! I used to run a black Citroen CX GTI back in the 80's and that C6 looks like an updated version. It's even got the concave rear windscreen.0 -
We have a Merc C200k. It's a nice car. Lovely to drive. Good to look at - but, it is absolutely hopeless in the least of wintry conditions. Unless you have a second car you will be stuck indoors some days. The rear wheel drive is rubbish. Also we just put ours in for a 'small' B service. When we bought the car it had done 17k miles and had just had a major service, and this service was only 10k miles later. Our £255 service ended up costing £650 - and add the 2 new tyres that cost another £300, it's not a cheap car to run. I'd have been happy with a new Skoda (my brother has one),l or a VW Passat, but my husband wanted this.
My husband's friend has a 3-series BMW and his one is the same in bad weather - also rear wheel drive. He also has to have run flat tyres as there is no spare tyre - and our local tyre place has a sign up saying that due to insurance issues they won't repair run flats, so that's pretty expensive if you get a puncture in one of them.0 -

Buy yourself winter tyres, no more snow problems.0 -
540i is just a less tuned M5.0

Have you looked into the running costs of some of these big cars, the cost of parts can be HUGE. I owned a 7 series and don't think I ever saw a bill under £700.
I do like the look of the 300C but it feels like it is a bit expensive for what you get, the reviews I have read don't seem to rate it and while it may have old merc underpinnings I am not sure it has the ergonomics and polish you would expect from an E class.
One of the reasons posh cars were so good were they shipped with cool toys like electric windows, reverse parking, sat nav etc. These days pretty basic cars ship with that sort of stuff so you could by a similar spec but younger car with a less posh badge.
That said if you are after a head turner then why not consider some more exotic sports cars. For that kind of cash you could a jaguar xk, porche boxer, z4 or honda s2000, audi tt. They could be decent cars if you have the cash to run them and dont really need a back seat.
I will personally be looking for a jag XKR shortly but I do very little mileage and in the full knowage that possible bills like the timing chain will be £1500+.0 -

Hydragas suspension too, floats like a magic carpet...0 -
£13 + New + Luxury does not compute.0

I miss mine but a heavy foot and living in London meant 14mpg was fun but if I had the money I would buy another one.Take a test drive in an XJ6 and be very pleasantly surprised. Lightweight body, looks like the "8" and has all the toys but the running costs of a 5 Series. If you don't like that, then buy the 5 Series.0
