    Hey guys,
If you are concerned now, wait untill you try set set up payments to these people. My internet Banking doesn't recognise their name, tried under the supplied sort code and account number still no joy. Rang my bank they were unable to help. Even trying to pay by cheque instructions are vague (tells you to put the account holders name on the first line, surely I am the account holder. If it means them, then can someone tell me where it tells you who to make cheques payable to??? Don't leave it 'till the last minute to arrange payments they will probably sting you for that too.

Who do you bank with? My A&L/Santander account had no problems sending the money to my Opus account, through online banking.
My posts are my own opinions based on my experiences and info gathered from sites such as this.

here's a better one! opus have issued MY CARD account in my wifes name as main holder AND increased the rate!! how good is that! I couldn't speak to Opus last week but Citi knew about it and said they couldn't do anything i needed to speak to opus which i haven't got around to. this is pretty shocking even given that my wife was a secondary card holder I'm not sure i'll actually be able to speak with opus as they seem to believe my wife is now the account holder (they even sent BOTH cards addressed to her not me!!)
Did the same with me!Weve cut up cards and account is cancelled as never used card anyway!

    Now to top it all!!!

I rang tesco after getting the card number from Hopeless....

THEY DONT RECOGNISE OPUS AS A BANK!!!

Cant do a balance transfer!!! CRAZY!
Hmm............same here. Got transferred from Citi to Opus........not a problem in itself until I went to move my balance away to a card with a cheaper interest rate.............guess what?? I CAN'T!!!!!!!!!!!

(I've always used my Citi card for monthly spending and cleared the outstanding balance at the end of the month by either full payment or moving balance to cheaper card................never been a problem for years and years. Worked really well.)

So............I'm now 'stuck' with a balance on a card that I didnt want in the first place...........

I am now incurring interest on that balance, as they will not let me move it away and whats more is that when I originally phoned them to make this balance transfer, they kept me on the phone for 20minutes, their advisor told me that he would be able to do this transfer for me................

This was a good 10 days before the minimum payment was due, so allowed ample time for the balance transfer to happen without incurring any charges.......

When I phoned later that week to check that the transfer had in fact been actioned, I was told by an extremely rude advisor that I wont be able to transfer any balance away from Opus and when I challenged him about this being a very clever 'money making scheme' for Opus, he got very abusive and totally unreasonable with me to the point where I had to terminate his shouting abuse at me and ended the phone call.

So, due to their 'lies' (we will make the transfer for you), I am now not just incurring interest on a balance which I want to shift to somewhere else, but also a late payment fee, which, had I known they were not telling me the truth in the first place, need not have happened, as I tried to make the transfer in the first instance in plenty of time, ie. this would also have allowed plenty of time for the minimum payment!

Can OPUS really do this?? Can they stop me from moving my debt? Surely, this is unlawful? They are forcing me to spend money with them by way of charging interest on the outstanding balance, by not allowing me to move my debt away!

Is this legal? Can anyone help me with this, please??
  • Opus Customer Service is appalling, I contacted them on 17 Dec requesting that they transfer the credit balance on my account back to my Bank Account, told not a problem but it will take up to 5 working days to complete - pretty standard so no problem.

Checked Opus balance several days later and still in credit, called asked why I'm still in credit when the money should now be in transit, told it takes up to 5 working days and I only asked for the transfer 3 days previously, ok then I'll expect to see it in my bank account in another 2 days.

Well checked my balance this morning and found to my horror that no money has been transferred, spoke to Customer Service and they told me that they have had a backlog of work to complete since taking over Citi cards and the request to action a transfer out of my account did not take place until 24 Dec 10, now told that the money will be credited to my Bank Account not before 5 Jan 11. Appalling, glad I'm closing this account.

    Opus is s***......
I haven't received any statements from them, nothing! I incured a late fee because of their fault, wasn't ably to pay on time as they couldn't take payment so i had to pay late fee for their lie.
    AVOID THEM!!!
  • When my card was operated by Citi I used to pay more than the Direct Debit required amount well before the DD due date and the DD was not taken. In Nov 10 I did the same whilst still a Citi Card, payed more than the DD required, checked the online account summary with Citi well before the change over day on 21 Nov and the required DD amount was £0.00 - Happy. Change over to hopeless Opus and on 29 Nov they take out £169.00 from my current account, the minimum payment for November before I paid off £200.00. Called Customer Services and demanded my money back, they said they could not do anything and that I'd have to contact my bank to recall the DD, I did and Nationwide recalled and re-credited my account - Happy but angry. Received first hopeless Opus Statement and see that they have charged me £12.00 for a returned cheque, called them and after explaining to a dimwit what happened and having to hold whilst duty dimwit chief was consulted they agreed to refund the £12.00 returned cheque fee. Absolutely hopeless - now waiting for them to close my account.

I hope you haven't let this one go.

If the cirumstances are as you say, then you should go through Opus' complaints procedure, then escalate to the Financial Ombudsman if you get no satisfaction.

If the complaint escalates to the financial ombudsman then it will cost Opus far more than the late payment fee.

Note that you must have attempted to rectify the matter through Opus' complaints procedure before escalation.
