The fact that people are delaying (and indeed not having) children due to the cost of housing is a very very sad indictment of the state of this country, and our society.

The fact that more people aren't delaying (or indeed not having) children due to the overpopulation of the planet is a sad indictment of the world, and our society.

I would suggest that having children that you know you cannot support is bordering on child abuse.

Or possibly a sign of increased personal responsibility.

I see very little personal responsibility for anything, in practically every part of our society.

Justifying high housing cost like that makes little sense.

it is possible that people are becoming more rational about parenthood. we're one of the first generations to have effective birth control. plus people are perhaps more thoughtful as to the longterm lifestyle implications both for the child and themselves of bringing another expensive life into the world.

i don't think it's necessarily a bad thing that the delay is occuring - it is interesting though.

Neither do I...bar the health and healthcare cost implications for mothers and children when pregnancies are later. I don't think ''cost'' itself is an implication...think of birthrates in lower standard of living countries. I think expectation changes, the combination of birth control with aspiration..to do with careers, life, travel, physicality. I also think that as a society we become more fearful of responsibility that goes with parenthood, and more judgemental of others.

Hardly. More like tory policy control.

Get the impression you really like giving away other peoples hard earned cash. Would you be in the public sector by any chance?

I dare say if you dug deep enough you would find similar VI induced survey results from the 60's, 70's and 80's :)
