The bathroom is roughly: 167cm x 190cm. and the boxing for pipes are about 20cm wide over an entire wall and corner...

    In that case

There's also the ceiling to pain, if that makes it look a bit cheaper. I'm not sure about the square meter of the wall to pain. Let's say 5sq meters (but probably a bit less) plus the ceiling of less than 4sq meter?

I'm asking my ex for the details of the contracor we used 3 years ago for a new quote.

it sounds fair enough to me. you could save some money by maybe stripping the bathroom yourself. if your instant reaction is 'no thanks', then i think that explains why the cost is this much.

you might be able to shave a few quid by going for alternative quotes but also take into consideration the quality of the work you will get and if you feel you can trust this person more than an unknown.

    2 visits for a painter.

£180 is the only thing that isnt a rip off.

If the painting was all that was being done I would agree. However this a part of a larger job so I would still consider this to be expensive. I guess if the 'painter' is a different person to the 'fitter' who is a different person to the 'plumber' etc then I suppose its not that bad. I still would not pay that in somerset.

Hi Ninky, I plan to do the entire house by myself to save money. The guy who quoted knows that. So I thought I could get the luxury of having the bathroom made by a professional… I’ve got enough scraping to do with the 2 bedrooms, living room, kitchen and at a later stage, hallway…

It's not excessive at all especially if the soil pipe is being moved/re sited.

All these people suggesting it's 5 days work including a full re plaster are simply living in cloud cuckoo land.

You've got a reasonable quote there which done to a good/high standard is 10 days work.

    I've found that website: http://www.ratedpeople.com/m/how-it-works/.html
    I'll see where it leads...

The soil pipe isn't being moved though is it? Otherwise it would say that in big capitals with a hefty price tag beside it probably underlined in red & with three zeros following it.

As for plastering. It will be boarded as an empty shell by a labour who can dot & dab. Then skimmed by a pro (hopefully).

Are your tiles porcelain or ceramic?

Porcelain tiles take about three times as long to put up as normal ceramic tiles, I discovered when having my bathroom re-done recently. Affects the timescale for a bathroom renovation quite significantly.
