V5 & previous owners query
Comments
-
A further update folks,
today I received my reply from the DVLA about my request for information on how many previous owners etc.
the DVLA have now informed me the my car actually has 2 previous owners
1.) Mrs XXXX XXXXXXX
2.) Motorpoint, Derby
and not 4 as I was informed in the first place
they have also informed me I will shortly be receiving a newly updated V5 with the correct details
still slightly confused, as despite several phones calls explaining what has already been covered in previous posts,, surely they could of seen this information in front of them on there computers in the first place
also the name on the V5 as the previous last keeper seems to have disappeared :eek::eek:
I will be writing back to the DVLA requesting at the very least the return of my £5 fee I have paid for this information
one final query, as it has already been mentioned, should Motorpoint's name actually appear on the car's V5 as previous owners (it appears they taxed the car, prior to me picking it up)
thoughts ????
also,
Motorpoint (Derby) said they would also be writing to the DVLA to query this, not sure whether the did, or it was a phobb off0 -
There are a few ways why Motorpoint appear on the logbook, the car was a demonstrator or they registered it as a demonstrator for a small tax advantage, as their margins are tight every little helps, or it could simply have been a new car is stock that arrived without a logbook, they applied for one so they had the logbook on site when a prespective buyer asked to see it and you bought it before it arrived.
Though Motorpoint are a large well known dealer and have no history of anything dodgy, unlike a car supermarket just outside the M25 that was fined a large amount for selling Parallel Import Opels as Vauxhalls a few years ago.0 -

The record may have been corrupted, or some of the previous keepers may have appeared twice, if there was a plate change then 2 records could have merged by accident etc. This is why you had to write in to request the info. The computer records holds the bog standard info like car details and keepers info. When you write in they request the copies of all the documents used to make any changes on the record, and then they can see what may have gone wrong.
Re Motorpoint. When they taxed the vehicle they must have needed to put it in their name (i.e. they did not have logbook in their possession) so yes they would appear as a keeper in this case. Or for the reasons listed in above post.

Most " new " cars at Motorpoint are imports, Motorpoint do not actually own the cars, they are provided by importers, they are often registered in the name of the importer, or Motorpoint, prior to being sold.
So, many " new " cars from Motorpoint are not " new " at all, they are Pre-Registered cars with delivery miles on them.0 -

thanks for your comments, most of it makes sense
however just to clarify a few things,
my car appears to have been an ex motability car (this was pointed out to me several times by Motorpoint, I also made this point several times to the DVLA) and I was supplied paperwork for a motability service
by the looks of the previous V5, the details where totally balls-up, they had the last previous keeper as Mrs XXX XXXXXXX, from Derby (nothing to do with Motorpoint) good job I never contacted her directly before the DVLA
going by the latest letter stating the details of the previous owners/keepers, this now makes sense, stating the first owner as Mrs XXXXX, who was the first owner under the motability scheme, then is lists Motorpoint from the 26.Aug.2010, this looks like when Motorpoint would of taxed the car, as I agreed to buy the car around the 12.Aug, then actually collected the car early in Sept
Thanks to all for advice & assistance0 -
Motorpoint must not have been in possession of the V5, and so, because the taxation class must be changed from disabled, they would have had to apply for a V5. As your V5 now shows 2 keepers in total, the vehicle was, in fact, 1 previous keeper when sold. Glad you got it sorted!0
