kusadasi, marmaris or side?

hi guys.. am looking to use the last of my tesco vouchers (with the horrendously over priced cosmos!)

we've decided on turkey but have no idea where to go.. our budget only allows for SC apartments in kusadasi, marmaris or side

I have looked at reviews but would be good to hear from anyone thats been to any or all of them to compare..

I believe that marmaris is a bit 'blackpool in the sun' in parts? but can live with that as dont do clubbing or drinking.. we are more interested in places to visit, ephesus etc..

would like to do the day trip to samos or rhodes but know nothing about those either.. which is nicer for a day trip?

hope i'm not asking too much.. the mamaris apts dont have rave reviews and seem a bit out of the centre which could be a good thing? but seems to be more places to visit from there possibly?

side looks nice enough but no island hopping from there by the looks of it..

be good to hear from anyone

thanks :)

Hi - are you still deciding on this? Just came across the thread today. I usually visit Icmeler (next town to Marmaris) and generally end up spending most of my days in Marmaris. Bits are like Blackpool but the castle is worth a look; the marina is pretty and there are little cafes off the main streets where you can enjoy real Turkish food. Hope you got a bargain, whichever you decided on!

Haven't been to Side, but would choose Marmaris over Kusadasi. However like previous poster would still prefer Icmeler virtually next door to Marmaris if you have an option on that.

Marmaris is a small resort, nice beach, some clubs, few shops, bars n restaurants along the beach and trips to a belly dancing night out / island hop (Rodos-Greece) / Seventh Wonder of the World - Pamukkale (springs) / Turkish Bath etc.

I went there in July and it was so hot I never really went anywhere in the daytime. The money is easier now. I went there and paid 500,000 Turkish Lira for a ride on a mini-bus!!

They are friendly (sometimes very very keen to get your custom but that's like that in most tourist places in the world)

Quite funny - somebody was selling beads beside a little castle type place by the marina and said £1 shop!!!

    Quite right.
Me and the missus are going to Antalya and Side at the end of February.
Sleezyjet to Istanbul first, and a few days in that beautiful, awesome city that can keep you occupied for weeks.
Do your homework first, and you should be able to enjoy anywhere.

There's a whole lot more to Turkey than the Mediterranean and Aegean resorts, and I'm sure there's a whole lot more to the Marmaris area than you describe.

The Greeks invented democracy and most of modern civilisation.

Is that why they make such a good job of civil unrest and rioting in the streets?

Have to agree the one bad thing about Turkey is the constant hassle going into restaurants and shops which puts me off going again. Even if you walked by restaurants with a toothpick in your mouth the touts would still thrust a menu under your nose.

Stay away from the tourist traps.
You'll get no hassle, cheaper shopping, better quality meals, and a more authentic experience. It's not rocket science tha'knows;)

    Yup, it's called protesting.
Like the Poll Tax and student protests in the UK.
The Turks don't bother because the women don't have voice on account of being second class citizens and the men are too busy trying to spit-roast lonely overweight female tourists.
I exaggerate, of course, but you catch my drift.
