EDF promises not to hike prices before March News Discussion

Just closed the door to a SE rep doing the rounds trying to sign people up. Not a mention of their price rises on December 1st, took a lot of persuading that I actually know my unit prices, and not a whisper about my supplier, EDF, holding prices until the Spring.
I am very grateful for the information on this site and Martin's TV appearances when he keeps banging on about the subject.
How about a campaign to stop doorstop sales of Utilities as, without exception, each one I have answered the door to has been untruthful?0 -
Why cancel EDF ? (not sure if you can) What other better deals are out there ?
I spoke to them and they told me if you leave before Dec 2011 you will have to pay back the £100 BUT they said they won't be rising prices until March next year. It's a gamble but I will stick with it as they might not increase prices that much after March. If they do, I am sure the £100 as well as the £80 cashback will cover it.0 -
All of the big 6 energy companys will put prices up eventually.
What i have found is scottish powers prices have now gone up.But on the other hand they have two products which can stop you getting any increase this year.
Capped price till december 2012 :, This caps your prices at the unit rates from march 2010 , If you take this deal now it,s a win win situation, prices cant go up ,but if by any miracle prices drop ur unit rate will too..then on top you get dual fuel and dd discounts.
Platinum fixed till jan 2014: The longest fixed price on the market fixing unit rates from aug 2010..you also get the homecomfort boiler care free with this product, this saving aprox £200 over a year.
Im glad i took time to listen to the agent who called me,may help alot people out, dont get hit by rises:rotfl:0 -

I've just switched to EDF from British Gas.
It seems a no brainer. The unit prices are cheaper and the standing charge works out cheaper than the BG two tier tariff.
The only possible downer isn't even a downer - i.e how much they increase prices in March when there is £30 tie in for both gas and electricity and giving the £100 back if I leave before December 2011 - BUT - given once it gets to March I won't be using as much gas or electricity it gives plenty of leeway. Even I did leave I only need to save £15 a month from December to March to cover the £60 and that seems certain - with prices already cheaper than British Gas before their next rise.
I cannot see why any British Gas customer shouldn't leave.0 -
Can any kind person please direct me to the correct thread or help me here please.
I am on EDF on eco 2020.Is this tarriff better or worse than the online saver tarriff?Im prob average use.2 adults,4 kids,3 bed semi if that helps give idea on consumption. My dd are 110 between both and that covers my bills. Is the online saver any good?
i am also on eco 2020 , last year our consumption was 5903 kwh for electric and 9002 for gas , we pay £60 and £40 a month respectively , and after crunching the numbers , online saver 7 will save us combined about £150 a year. our eco 2020 meter gets removed on wednesday
am in eastbourne , south east.0 -
I can now pass on the following statements from EDF to clarify the position on the £100 Welcome Bonus and whether the Online Saver 7 is included in the Winter Price Freeze Guarantee.
They are:
EDF Energy confirms it will not look to claim back the welcome bonus in cases where a customer has remained with our supply during our Winter Price Freeze Guarantee period. The clause had been included to protect EDF Energy against any potential abuse of our special offer.
'Customers who have signed up to Online Saver 7 are covered by the winter price freeze guarantee’.0 -
Excellent work backfoot. :money:
So we can all jump ship if the prices increase too much after 1st March 2011 without losing the £100 bonus and only incure the 2 x £30 penalty fee. :T0 -
Thank you wakeupalarm,
Yes that's exactly it and the comfort of no increase until March 2011. Both of these issues were not clear before, but I hope that they are now.
EDF have now cleared the matter up in a very fair and amicable way for those customers, who switched or are about to switch, based on their Promotional Offers.

But have you actually checked the unit rates you will be paying on these tariffs? You are effectively paying any anticpated increases upfront. You are buying insurance, sure. But you are also buying a very expensive tariff. Did you think it just a coinicidence that the rep was calling just after price rises are anounced? It's a deliberate attempt to sell fixes when people are twitchy about possible further increases. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
