  • As mentioned earlier I switched to EDF earlier in the week.

After doing that I informed British Gas by phone that I was leaving so that they cannot charge me the new inflated price for my gas or electricity until I leave. Which they said they would sort.

Today I received an email from British Gas informing me of the price rises on 10th December. I decided to phone them up to check their price would not be applied to my account as I was leaving. Their operator thought I was talking rubbish and was adamant I had to pay the price rise until I switched to EDF.

In the end I had to tell him to google "Gas price rise just say no thanks".

Then after consulting several people until he found someone who knew something about it, he had me hold the line until he put a block on my account so that no price rises could be applied.

I would suggest anyone leaving British Gas makes sure they have this block on their account!

I have replied to the email and asked for confirmation by email or letter that I am not liable to pay any price rises.

Just tell them to read their own email which says.. "If you wish to terminate your contract for the supply of gas or electricity (or both) to avoid these changes, please contact us on 0800 980 1917 within 20 working days of receiving this notice. Lines are open 8am-6pm Monday to Friday. You must arrange alternative supply."

Thanks - I wasen't aware of this. Will ring Atlantic tomorrow. Did request to switch over to EDF 2 weeks ago.

  • I'm about to take this up (it's a bit of a no-brainer for me, saves a huge amount of money even without the bonus). However, the offer expires in four days!

I'm pretty certain I'll be fine if I go direct through the EdF website, but I'm worried about risking going through energyhelpline.com - it might net me another £15 bonus, but is there a chance they won't get the details to EdF by Tuesday and lose me the £75?

Anyone know how fast they are?

    Cheers

I too have the same question as Jamie above, re being in time for the offer closing.

Also, if I were to switch my BG dual fuel to separate single fuel with different companies, would I be eligible for 2 lots of £15 from energyhelpline?

I am considering switching electricity to EDF Online Saver 7 (£75 welcome bonus) and gas to NPower Sign Online 20.

Why not go through Quidco and get £80 instead? You just click through to EDF, there is no delay.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I don't believe you can just sign up for electricity with the EDF saver 7 deal if you have gas. It's for dual fuel.

No it's not just dual fuel, it's dual fuel or electricity only. No gas only I'm afraid-I had the same problem.

  • Macman - thanks very much - hadn't spotted that! Have just had a look; both TopCashBack and Quidco are offering the same £50 for a single electricity swap (I'm swapping my gas to Ebico, who don't show up on either site). As TCB don't have a membership charge I think I'll go through them, unless I'm missing something?

Tesco9 - looks like we're in very similar circumstances. If I understand correctly you can go through TCB or Quidco to EdF and get both a £50 bonus from the referrer and the £75 from EdF. Then you can switch your gas to NPower seperately; depending on which tariff you're looking at you'll be able to get between £20 and £50 for this switch from Quidco or TCB as well.

Good grief - these switches are saving me £230 on my bills, and getting me £125 cashback. I love this site!

    Cheers

    Thanks for the replies.
I think I will opt for EDF dual fuel via Quidco.
