Of course you can take back a 'goodwill' credit. It is a 'bonus' - it explicitly says it will not be redeemed or refunded if you do not stay the course. You lot are just being silly and cynically trying to exploit language in a very petty fashion.
Not at all. There was genuine confusion at EDF so how can customer's have known where they stood.
All I tried to do was understand the issue as far as my own switching decision is concerned. I am still within the cooling off period so it affected what I do.
I felt that their 'official' response veers much more to the view that for genuine customers signing up the bonus will be honoured in full. They do intend it as a Welcome Bonus rather than a Loyalty Bonus. I discussed this explicitly with them.
As they clearly say, they were only trying to prevent a quick in and out.
You seem to take a different view to that which they have written, but I honestly can't see why?0 -

I really think everyone here is being ridiculous and nit picky in a time of recession. Just be thankful they are giving £100 and take the risk. Other companies are not doing any better and we have to get our energy from someone. Stop trolling.:mad:0

Stop trolling.
I think you are the one who is trolling.
We must "be thankful" to "the world's largest nuclear operator" with "revenue of €52.93 billion ($72.48 billion) over the last 9 months", for giving us a little bonus for becoming a customer of theirs!?? :rotfl:"The happiest of people don't necessarily have the
best of everything; they just make the best
of everything that comes along their way."

I think you should look up the definition of trollingThe only really ridiculous behaviour I've seen in this thread has come from EDF. A seemingly deliberately ambiguously worded T&C in order to create confusion. Why don't they just come clean and either say they WILL take back the welcome bonus or they WON'T?? It's hardly rocket science. There's clearly an ulterior motive at play here in making the T&Cs so ambiguous. Case by case basis??? Crazy.

Not trolling, but deliberately pretending a clear clause with obvious intent is especially ambiguous is nonsense. Language is not canonical. Stop loop-hole mining.0

Nonsense. That T&C could have been written by Stanley UnwinTo illustrate the point, your original assertion of what it means has been contradicted by at least 2 EDF employees. :rotfl:
Seriously, what's wrong with saying:
Should you switch to another supplier before the tariff end period we will insist on repayment of the £100 welcome bonus.
Simple. Unambiguous. Plain English. The only fly in the ointment for EDF is it may just deter some people signing up, hence the silly, ambiguous T&C they've used instead. And that's my bone of contention.0 -

Which is any different from 'not redeemable or refundable' how? :confused;0 -

I'm bowing out of this because there is one of us who is intent on stirring up conflict needlessly. And it isn't me. You'll have to find someone else to argue with. Plus I know I'm 100% right which won't make the 'disagreement' end any time betewen now and Xmas if I was to carry on. Peace.
Edit: My definition of this clause if it indeed does mean what you think it does is: It's actually a much more sneaky way of tieing you in than npower's £105 paid at the end of the 12 month period. At least they are 'sort of' upfront about that. No ambiguity. Plus, i've also just read that EDF don't grant any discount on final accounts so even more to add to the cancellation fees?? I'm cancelling the switch.0 -
Can any kind person please direct me to the correct thread or help me here please.
