  • Have you Not thought about the health and safety issue: You're in the loo, fire alarm goes off, all out. You're locked in there due to some freak lock-incident.

    Your info from the key card tells the fire brigade you are in there and they know where to find you.

    Or at least, employer knows where you were last seen in the event of such an accident.

    And if the fire alarm went off and the toilets were not kept locked, and therefore did not require a keycard to gain access, the lock therefore could not fail to open, and there would therefore be no need to get information from a card as there would be no-one trapped in there.
