which paper shredder?

I tear off the parts of documents that contain my name, address and any account No. details then put the rest in the recycling. The confidential parts I tear up a bit further and put in the compost bin. Only takes a few seconds and it's done with no financial outlay at all. Very MSI like to live in cloud cuckoo land :hello:0

I have taken to burning the real confidential info in the fire place....just the bits with the account details, names, addresses etc on...it doesn't usually amount to much, and only takes a few seconds to rip off - the rest goes in the recycling.
I was hankering after a new shredder, as the first (hand) one broke due to having more than one sheet of paper in it, but as they are plastic, metal, electrical etc...and I am trying not to spend any unneccesary cash, I thought it was more economical and possibly greener?

i've got woolworths cross cut shredder, £15, seems to do the job!0

cross cut all the way, long single strips of paper (no matter how thinly cut) are not secure.
As far as recycling is concerned, the local petshop or my friends kids hamster always appreciates it"The reasonable man adapts to the world,
The unreasonable man adapts the world to himself,
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man."0 -

We've got a shreader, its not a cross cut one, just cuts into strips. It was from Partners (stationers) cost £9.99 and is fine. It comes with its own bin which we line with carrier bags.
When its full we put that in the back of the car and take down lottie next time we go to go in the composter.
You can and should add shreaded paper to a compost bin, it counteracts the wet stuff.0 -
cross cut shredders are more secure for destruction or personal data though. It makes it very hard for pieces to be put together again0

PC World have a good one but their website is down for reconstruction so I can't direct you to one.
The one I have in mind is called PCLine, takes up to 8 pages at a time, cross shreds to 3.9mm x 5mm (which is quite good, you can get smaller but it costs more), takes credit cards, has a micro switch so will sense paper near it's cutters so will shred without turning it on and off each use - put you can turn it off too, copes with staples too.
Cost £25.00, down from £50.00.
I can recommend it as it was the replacement for our last one which could not keep up with our demands - we used to have bags of confidential papers waiting to be shredded once the machine had had a little rest!! This one keeps up with us well.0
