First step is to enter your product code found under the battery into the update check that will then inform you of your latest software for your phone .

In that case update via Nokia software updater

Or if that fails take it to a Nokia service centre for update .

Backup your data contacts etc first just in case .

Unfortunately I do not have the usb lead .
You can connect using bluetooth as well.
I have managed to download using bluetooth and Ovi suite.

I have spoken to a "Nokia care centre" who tell me that it is impossible to upgrade the phone software online as the phone has been unlocked is this true ?

Unlock does not matter. Even if it is locked then its still locked after software upgrade and same goes if its unlocked.

If you have data package, you do not need any leads.

Just type *#0000#. It would device data and updates.

    Look for software version.

    Tap/ touch Options:-
    Tap Check for updates.
Then follow phone prompts from there.

    BEWARE:-

If you have older version, please donot update to the latest version straight away. or you would be in Soup.

Let phone take care of its updates.

That update has not yet been made available for your product code. Is there something you need specifically in the new release?

Then I apologise but when I entered the product code on the Nokia web site it told me that version of the update ! So if the Nokia site tells me the wrong version where do I go for the correct version ?

v11 is very very old so i would go to a Nokia Service Centre .
You are missing a lot on that firmware like free Navigation software better scrolling etc .

OTA = no update then Try Nokia web sites software updater that fails Nokia Care Centre .

As above, try NSU (Nokia Software Updater) and failing that a NSC (Nokia Service Centre)
