The Great Cheap, Safe Fireworks Hunt

To try and remove confusion:
Cat 2 = 5m distance or 8m in some circumstances and will all be 1.4G
Cat 3 = 25m distance. Both 1.4G and 1.3G fit into this catagory. Items become 1.3G based on the amount of flash power in the item. Flash powder allows manufacturers to create the large breaks for each tube fired.
Supermarkets will sell both Cat 2 and Cat 3 but all will be 1.4G due to storage regs
Thanks for that - I was just getting a tinsy bit frustrated with a certain killjoy on here is all.
And to simplify everything else - if you want crackly, pretty and not very loud then by all means go to a supermarket. If you want anything more, then give them a miss to avoid disappointment.
If it's value for money you're after (depending on your budget of course) then look no further than places like Epic, Galactic, Newsbox and one or three others....Trust me, the guys at these places really know what they are talking about, they are all very passionate about fireworks....Also, worth bearing in mind that if you've got a decent sized budget to spend for GFN then the specialist shops mentioned will do you a better deal than what's advertised on their websites.0 -

Ok, I'm not being a killjoy.
If people want 1.3G then great, buy as much as you like... but remember...
1.3G fireworks CAN ONLY BE STORED FOR THREE DAYS.
I do not think that a thread called the Great, Cheap , SAFE Fireworks hunt should be encouraging people to break the law. Fines for illegal storage can be in the 1000s.
On a consumer site such as this, I think this is a relevant point. Shops will market 1.3g stuff, but won't tell you that you can only store it for 3 days.0 -
Yeah - those October door to door visits by the police when they raid everyone's houses looking for 1.3 fireworks are a real bummer.
And I guess you've never driven 5 mph over the speed limit before...that's breaking the law too.
Its people like you who cause accidents and got most fireworks band in the first place.
We are talking about dangerous products here and you go on about this guy being a kill joy when he is posting good advice about how people can enjoy themselves and keep "SAFE" the people who visit and their Neighbours.
How i miss the old 3in Mortar shells they were only 2 or 3 £' each & were fantastic. still see them in the USA when on holiday and i start pining for them.0 -
so if supermarkets are rubbish which website does the best quality fireworks at the best prices?0

Well, like everyone else, you're entitled to your opinion, but I can assure you (and like anyone who is as passionate as I am about GFN) I am ultra safe regarding fireworks, I have the upmost respect for them..I'll have over 30 adults and children at my GFN party you think I'd put them in danger?..wake up and smell the coffee won't you. I happen to know more about this particular subject then you'll ever know, so I'd appreciate it if you'd stop trying to patronise somebody who is here to help people make the right choice and get value for their money.
Besides, I haven't once 'told' people to buy and store x-amount of fireworks weeks in advance - it's people's own choice if they wish to do that. If they'd like to then they can see for themselves here: www .hse.gov.uk/explosives/fireworks/industry.htm0 -

That article is for people selling fireworks. Here is one from the point of view of the consumer: http://www.ukfr.com/fireworks-forum/consumer-fireworks/21087-storing-fireworks.html
....
Basically folks, remember that if the seller is selling 1.3G you need to only store it for 3 days unless you have the licence to store more. Retailers will heavily market their products as being 1.3G, but WON'T tell you about safe storage.0 -

How much are you thinking of spending buddy? If it's 100s, then you can get some good deals mail order. If it's just a bit, then you are best maybe buying from a local shop.
Epic gets customers from all over the country, but unless you you spend a lot on fireworks the money you save doesn't cover the cost of your petrol- eg don't spend £30 driving to save £20 on fireworks!
Where about do you live?0 -
