Hi Dave, you're not far from me in Brighton and I can tell you we lack good all year firework shops in the south east. Brighton Fireworks, Thunderous Fireworks (Hancross) and Frontier Fireworks (very close to you in Polegate) all seem to charge full RRP for most products.
In your shoes I would still check out http://www.frontierfireworks.co.uk/index.php and get some smaller Brothers cakes which are not too bad on price even at full RRP. I think some Planet/FireworkEmporium stuff may be good aswell but have not fired any personally. Check videos on youtube and you can see what you're getting, its the best way.
I can personally recommend Guinevere (£15) Minefield (£20) Bling Bling (£23) and Tri-Fawkes(£32) either of them 3 would make a decent finale cake, depending on how far you want your budget to go. Fabulous barrage pack for £55 would be another option giving you 9x 16 shot cakes.
Failing that I'd go to Lidl.0 -

We did try a box and some rockets from a local shop last year but they were rubbish. This year our local Sainsbury's is closed in the run up to BFN for a refit and are selling a different brand I think, info being hard to find and the shop staff less than helpful.
Tesco seem to be doing Standard fireworks and I think for the money we can put together a couple of boxes (and get the Clubcard points!), but are they any good? Are there any safe, cheap and decent alternatives to supermarkets that don't cost the earth?
Advice please!
Dave after looking through the shops close to you and for a garden display spending £50 - I would reccomend getting over to Thunderous Fireworks and checking out the stuff they have in the 5 - 8 metre range especially "Royal Party - THE LITTLE STARS" 9 Barrage pack - it has nine very nice Cakes in it that you will not be dissapointed in then for the rest of your money speak to them as the products they stock in that range all look good for the prices quoted.

In the end I bought these cakes by Fireworks International:
Cheeky Cherries
Lemon Bombard
Whistling Ghosts
Kung Fu Frogs
Fairies from Hell
Cyborgs (Never tried this one. Heard it was alright?)
Spooky Snakes
Some Brightstar Atom Bombs & Hornets.
A couple of packs of ~£12 Brothers and Fireworks International rockets.
Two Buy 1 get 1 free £30 selection boxes by Fireworks International.
All together £130, not bad I thought.0 -
