Hi everyone,
As the new season is almost upon us we thought we'd ask you all to post ideas and requests for help here in this one thread to try and help people find what they need in one place.
Over the next few days Pink, Gingham, and I will track back to find as many of last year's threads as we can and add links to them into this post - so you'll need to pop back here every now and then to see what's available already.
You'll also find some useful threads on The Families Board.

Help
Every year we have the same group of people over for a halloween party. In total 6 very hungry young people and 6 adults with huge appetites. In previous years money has not been an issue, I have bought lots of expensive nibbles from Sainsburys occassions range, including Chicken Satay lamb kebabs, goats cheese and loads of wine, beer and chocs. This year money is tight, I still have invited the same people over, do you think it would be rude to ask them to bring supplies such as wine and beer. Also I need some quick and easy ideas for food that wont keep me in the kitchen all evening and wont cost a fortune. I still have decorations ect left from last year.
Thanks0 -
No, I don't think it's rude to ask people to bring a bottle. I would be tempted to cook a big chilli as you can stretch it with beans, mushrooms etc or a veggie one. Or a sausage casserole that can just be bunged in the oven. Or pumpkin soup.0

Ah Paige, it's horrid isn't it when your circumstances change and you have to cut your cloth accordingly
Rest assured, the person most bothered by this will be you - I've just gone through the same process with my friends and everyone is being so supportive. I've got a party on Saturday which I have managed to cater for SO cheaply (the chilli idea is a winner by the way) and I've told everyone to bring a bottlesssssssss (plural is always good). Because one of my friends knows I'm a bit of a foodie she's been making me a lil hamper up for the last few weeks everytime she sees a deli or farm shop, bless her.
Chilli or spag bol, loads of crusty bread, jacket pots, bowl of salad - when you start thinking about it feeding your friends needn't take a lot of money, just a little bit more thought and prep than you'd normally do.

There's a sticky for halloween threads to keep them all together, so I'll put this there for you and it won't slip off the front page. Hopefully it will get more responses that way. There are a couple of links on it to other threads that might be worth a quick look too.
For what it's worth, my opinion is that it is completely acceptable to ask people to bring a bottle/some beers. And the chilli sounds like a great idea.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
Thanks so much Nix 143. I feel so much better now. I am going to put a Chilli in my slow cooker, do some jacket Pots and buy a couple of French Sticks. I have mince in the Freezer and tinned toms so I will only have to buy a couple of things. I am going to call our friens and ask them to bring wine and beer.

hiya, thanks for the recipe.
I love Halloween and each year I make treats for our trick or treaters. last year I made toffee apples and had an utter nightmare trying to get the pan clean. It was so bad that I swore never to make them again or at least find an old pan and throw it out after I had made them!!
So does anyone have advice on how to get the pan clean after making toffee apples ?
My children have come home from school very excited that all their freinds think "we do the best halloween house!" and cant wait for more toffee applespinkpinkfizz

If you don't want to have any Trick or Treat callers then Cheshire Constabulary have printed a rather handy poster. On one side it says you are welcoming them and on the other that you would rather not have any callers. Last year we got loads of callers of people that we don't know - I think mainly because we live on a main road. I shall be putting mine up - not that I'm mean, if I know the children then that's fine but I'm not being pressured into giving stuff to people I don't know.
I presume as I have credited the source I can paste the link?
