Hi everyone, got this email a couple of days ago - what do you think??
Please quote ref: MYOF[ ] WINNER
Dear Ms [ ]
Congratulations! You've won laser eye treatment with Optimax worth £655.
You entered a MyOffers competition for laser eye treatment competition and you are the lucky winner.
Your Prize Details:
"Consultation worth £60 and One Epi-LASEK treatment worth £595"
That's at no charge if you only want one eye treated and just half price if you have both eyes treated.
At Optimax your consultation is with your treating doctor. (At other companies you do not see a doctor at consultation). You will appreciate that doctors’ time is very expensive and to avoid people not attending we require a £60 deposit to secure your appointment. This is fully refundable on attendance.
You can transfer your £595 prize as a discount if you have another type of laser treatment.
Treatment can take place at anytime up until the end of 2006.
Please call us today on 08705 14 33 14 to find out if you are suitable or ask further questions.
Kind regards
Russell Ambrose

Would imagine thats to get you in there.
Once there they would say right we need x amount for the other eye, or that type of laser treatment isnt suitable you would need this one at x amount more.
Then trot out the old, if you do not take this offer now we will not be able to repeat it.
Mind you I did only 'win' a consultation for free.0 -
Optimax is a fairly well known specialist in Laser eye treatment, and even if they do say that the free treatment is not suitable for you, at least you've had the consultation. Remember these are REAL optomitrists and won't advise you wrongly as it's their livleyhood if it all goes wrong.
In my opinion you've got nothing to lose by having at least the consultation, if you then wish to take it further, it's up to you.
I've been thinking of getting my eyes lasered and trust me when i say, i would be very interested to hear what the consultant has to say.
Good luck in whatever you decide.0 -
Is it legal to offer surgical procedures as a 'prize' in a competition?
How many competition prizes actually require cash up front? Doesn't this fly in the face of competition rules?
I would definitely err on the side of caution."He who asks questions cannot avoid the answers"0 -
I've been looking into having my eyes lasered and I was under the impression that they WONT do one eye, they only do both at the same time.
Definately worth going to find out what they say anyway.0 -
I would say that if you have to pay for anything then you haven't really won anything.0
-
i know, think I'm right to be cautious.
however, on the other hand, I would REALLY like my eyes done!
wonder if i can have one done with them and the other done with someone else (who's cheaper)??!?.0 -
Hi my partner has also "won" free eye treatment from same company.
He won it from a survey company.0 -
Ok, I just found this on the optimax website:
Can I have both eyes done at the same time?
Treating both eyes on the same day (bilateral treatment) is still controversial. Some consider it safer to wait until the outcome of the first eye is known. However, most people choose bilateral treatment for reasons of convenience. You should discuss this option with the Optimax eye doctor during your consultation.
LASIK - bilateral treatment is offered
Epi-LASEK - bilateral treatment is offered up to -4.00 dioptres
ICL - not offered bilaterally (minimum of one week between eyes)
SO I could just have one eye done? (and then change my glasses prescription to have plain glass in one eye?!?).0 -
I also had this email, can't remember where they got me details from, but just deleted it:o0

I had mine done with Optimax, I had one eye done, then the other 2 or 3 months later. I didn't win a competition though. :-)When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.0
