!!!! me, My husband and I earn under £30k between us and seem to do fine.

No benefits, just full time work and we manage to pay our rent on time, and all our bills, and feed ourselves, have 2 dogs, some chickens and ducks as pets, renting a 3 bedroom house.

Wait - there's the answer - we don't have any kids.
Seriously, you're on over £30k on your own and think you are going to struggle? Send him to work at pizza hut to earn some pocket money.

    Greedy.

Christ! Give the OP a break. You don't know their circumstances are! What salary you are on has nothing to do with it. In an ideal world ofcourse (and good MSE sense) is to have savings behind you to support yourself through times when you have lost a job for example. As you are so critical wonderpupp I presume you have six months of your salaries stashed away just in case the worst was to happen to you?? Also you do not know where the OP lives.....their salary wouldn't go very far if they live in most areas in the south-east...whereas they would feel a lot better off if they live in other parts of the country. And (my rant is almost over!) they have a child and that isn't cheap either. Where I live I need to earn £20,000 just to pay my daughter's nursery fees!!!
