Is the guest registration page on the original free Military Access offer.........just register, no payment, then you should be able to access the three sets of records available as part of the offer, until Sunday (remember to tick/untick boxes depending on how much contact you want from Ancestry etc in the future).butterfly )i(0 -
I have a couple that I can not find possibly as some records were destroyed, I have one set of records where you can see some fire damage luckily for me those were saved !
You can do a free search here http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/army.asp" I would not change you for the world, but I would change the world for you"

i really wish i could make use of this, ive been wanting to trace my family history for a while now, but not knowing what the hell im doing, and not being able to afford/not being prepared to pay on these kind of sites, ive not got very far at all. still waiting on family members to get back to me with what they already know, save me some time before i try to go further back by going to the national archives or wherever im supposed to go next. so unfortunately, i pretty positive this offer is going to pass me by. actually, while im here, anyone got any advice as to where to start with researching my family tree, im so lost in confusion its unbelievable. on a related note, i did search my family surname in the WWI records, (i know its pointless as i have no clue if any of these people are related to me) but i did find someone with my name from the same hometown as my family, kinda interesting.0

I'd say join genesreunited and rootschat, both sites are free and there are a lot of people who will give you lots of help for free !!
There are plenty of web sites where you can do free searches for census birth marriage death.
Take a trip to you main library I know a lot of library's have free access to Ancestry
Start with yourself and work backwards, keep a record of any 'matches' you find if more than one so you can go back and check at a later date.
It is a long process but once you get the hang of it it is addictive lol You will hit brick walls but that is all part of the fun, once you establish a area of your research there are lots of resources for example my fathers side of the family came from Leicester my mothers Coventry finding old photos of the areas they lived in was interesting.
It can be a really expensive game buying certs but it all depends on how certain you are on dates names etc
I will put a list together of the sites I use later" I would not change you for the world, but I would change the world for you"

I agree, the price they charge for one years access is ridiculous.
Have a look here http://www.cyndislist.com/ there may be something to get you started without paying.
Also try http://www.familysearch.org/eng/default.asp

Am I doing something wrong? Everytime I click to look at the details it takes me to the page to sign up for membership and wont let me look at anything. How do I do it without giving credit card details please?0
