Just been cut by a knife in TK Maxx - What can I do ?

I've just been to TK Maxx, picked up a knife block from a shelf at the bottom and rested it on my knee to look at it. Unknown to me, there was a knife sticking out of the bottom of the box which has ripped by jeans and broken the skin. Told the manager of the store and he offered me £30 - the jeans cost £60. I refused his offer and told him I'd be taking the matter further. I am furious, he did not ask if I was ok or take any details, or offer me first aid. I'm most bothered about the jeans though.

Any ideas ? Is there legislation they have broken by have exposed knives in the store ?

Have you got photographic evidence? and was the knife block faulty, or designed like that?
  • Yes, have a photograph and the knives were loose in the box, hence they had come through it - it was a very battered box.

Surely if the box was that battered you should have been very careful opening it?

Sounds like it was the sharpest knife in the box...

On a serious note, it's not like they have been wilfully negligent or reckless. Accidents happen.

Also if your not bothered about the £60 jeans why refuse the £30 refund?

I think he's after something reasonable, maybe £100k or so?
  • Joey - that sounds good ! I just want the correct money to replace the jeans. Surely this is fair ?
  • then write a letter requesting this.
