I got taken in by this too - very convincing website! I managed to get my money back from my credit card company through a chargeback, because I told them that I did not recognise the transaction. I was being perfectly honest, as I did not recognise the company name that appeared on my statement (as far as I was concerned I bought the product from Apple) and the amount taken was more than the amount that I had authorised. I did receive a product, but it was not the product I purchased (a 5th generation Nano), and it came over a month late. I had actually tried to explain the full story when I rang, but I reached an Indian call centre and the man I spoke to didn't really understand what I was saying, so he just sent me a form asking me to identify which tranactions I did not recognise.
I just got an email from Visamasterpay.com begging me to withdraw my chargeback because it damaged them and the seller (and me, because apparently it shows up on my credit rating). I'm quite happy if I damaged them and the seller of this fraudulent product, and I doubt that it'll have much impact on my credit rating! I notice that they are keen to contact me now, but no-one was keep to communicate when I asked for a refund and a return address for the fake product.0 -
Actually, this one was a Google sponsored link, at the top of the page, had Apple emblem and all sorts of emblems that I now know are not genuine, and the Ipod was advertised at the same price as Gamestation at £79.00 (sold out, 5th gen not 6th gen, which is what we wanted), so no, not too good to be true, really.
With the benefit of hindsight, yes I should have done some further research but didn't, thanks for the heads up.I will try Consumer Direct tomorrow, failing that will ring the bank re the possibility of a visa chargeback.
Just to confirm what an earlier poster said about links in Google - it seems there is a general misunderstanding of what 'Sponsored links' mean. Far from being any indication of an endorsement by Google, it simply means that the company themselves have 'sponsored' (ie paid) to have their ad at the top of the results page for certain keywords. Google do undertake certain checks on the ad text etc, but they are certainly NOT responsible for the content of the sites you reach once you have clicked.
I would say that it may be worth contacting Google to let them know that you have come across a bogus site as they do monitor attempts to mislead customers into believing they are on one site whilst leading them to another, but if you consider how many sites use Google as an advertising medium you may find that they can only offer a standard response at the time of complaining, although they may look further into it if they have enough complaints about the same site.0 -

Not my purchase .. I'm too old and cynical to be caught ( so far)
But same situation here.. could never contact the seller .
Cancelled debit card ( against advice of Barclays??)
Did get a chargeback eventually.. but Barclaycard Fraud department was useless.. in their eyes its only a a fraud if someone else has used your card without your knowledge. If you buy a fake its not a fraud ??
I think they must use a different dictionary to everyone else !.
