Gift ideas for the Family

Hello everyone.
First time poster and all that. Had a good look at the site and am well impressed.
I was just wondering if anyone had any great ideas about gifts for the whole family. You know the sort of thing....
Maybe a family ticket to a theme park or the theatre or something. Is there anything that would make this Christmas a bit more special? I always try and get something a bit out of the oridinary for the wife but thought I would go for the whole family this time and take everyone out somewhere.
Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Hi
Depending on ages of children etc.
1. Tickets to Theatre,
either local or London for a special treat if money no object.
2. Tickets to Pantomime or cinema with meal out afterwards.
3. Family membership to National Trust or English Heritage.
4. Annual membership to the zoo or animal park.
5. Post Christmas weekend away (often offers between xmas/new year).

Thank you, mate. All good options. I reckon the theatre trip and dinner might be spot on.
I found this on another thread also, which may be of interest to others
The Blue Planet Live. There's a video about it in Nottingham on you tube here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8TuLcLQ-LE but it is also coming to Manchester, where I am, and Newcastle...which I could tie in as a hotel stayover...
A family ticket is £75!! Got to be a bargain. Looks a fantastic show too, although clearly it would be better if the whales actually were brought into the arena for the evening
Even so, thanks to whoever it was on the other thread.
Another thought I had was tickets to a football match but I believe they are had to come by and ridiculously expensive. Premiershipwise anyway. Anyone know any different?0 -
I had another thought, based on something on one of the other threads.
I thought about getting a huge box and having everyone in the family unwrap it and then inside have all the presents for everyone. Just a bit of fun but thought I might share it as an idea for others.0 -

My Inlaws have bought us tickets to go and see the Blue Planet at Manchester. I wasn't looking forward to going until I saw that Youtube clip now i can't wait
My 5-year-old daughter will be sitting there open mouthed through the whole thing :rotfl: Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -
loving all the ideas everyone. Thanks. This is a great site.
I know what you mean about the youtube video. It looks like being one hell of a concert. I wonder if that video will still be on there at Christmas. If the family have the same reaction as you did to getting their tickets, I will want them to see the video so they can see just how amazing it is going to be.
Maybe I could try and copy that video from youtube and put it on a DVD and give it to them along with the tickets. Anyone know if you can download from youtube? Actually, don't worry. I'll google it.0 -
I couldn't download the video from youtube so if anyone can help on that front, I'd be grateful.
However, I did find the website for the the show which looks like it will have some nifty christmas presents on it. www.theblueplanetlive.com There's nothing there yet but it says there are eco friendly blue planet related products on their way soon. Looks like I could get a couple of things for the kids from that and that should fire them up about the show a bit.
So...many thanks to you all for your help. I have now come up with the following:
A big box with lots of presents in it, all related to the blue planet show and the sea, penguins, sharks, whales, etc. All individually wrapped with clues to find the final present somewhere else in the house...that will be a dvd which they play and hey presto I present the tickets.
Wonderful.
That's Christmas sorted for me, I think! Thank you to everyone for all your help and ideas. I've never had it sorted so early!!
If anything else occurs to me I'll pop it up here and keep the thread alive for other family christmas present ideas. A starter for ten; bikes for everyone...(a great way to get everyone spending quality time together.0 -
I found this on my travels too.

You can buy a tree as a present. What a fantastic idea. You get a one year old seedling and grow it into a tree.0
