benbenandme wrote:The first year I went to my (ex) boyfriends house for Christmas I had already been pre-warned that gran always knits her presents ... and the family "tradition" of having to wear grans knitted garments for Christmas dinner. I got a balaclava as she thought it would be useful for when I was waiting at bus-stops in the winter (!??!?) how ridiculous did I feel trying to make a good impression while wearing a bloody balaclava for dinner!!!!

Whilst my ex husband unwrapped a new stereo for his car and a £250 leather jacket - I unwrapped my plastic spatulas and luminous yellow saucepan set from MIL......nice!
New hubbies grandad sent us a pot of daffodil bulbs (but the bulbs had been taken out the box), 2 tapestry toiletry bags (used and not smelling very fresh) and a box of chairty christmas cards.....bless him.
Oh and last year - my 10 year old got a tellytubby from the same grandad.....I was just pleased that he wasn't there to see the look on her face."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
This has got to be the best thread on the board right now! :rotfl:

Two years ago my mother came to stay with me for Christmas. On Christmas Day she presented me with a watch in a nice box, complete with a £69 price tag on.
A couple of days later I was showing her the joys of EBay when we came across the very same watches under 'job lots' at £35 for 10.
A confession followed..........0 -
My DH was given a flowered address book by his aunt. He was eighteen (we use it now and laugh every time we need an address, the kids think we are mad!)0

Just remembered another one ...Me and my Hubby had had some heated words about him not doing some jobs around the house- he suggested that I get on with them!! A few weeks later it was my birthday ...he gave me a second hand DIY book that he bought at a library sale. Suffice to say I was not best pleased!:rolleyes:I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes0

my hubby bought me one of those singing fish thingies on a board. I couldn't belive he had bought such tripe. Needless to say it went back to the store and I persuaded him an eternity ring would be better, (bless him)0

When I was about 18 i recieved a really scary china doll from my dad
He said he thought i might like to start collecting them
I can't stand china dolls they scare me to death, so why he thought i would want to collect them is beyond me. This one was especially horrible it played music and moved it's head form side to side.
It got put in the garage in my sell pile, the garage got broken in to and loads of stuff was stolen but they left the scary !!! doll:rotfl:0 -

There's a new line in intruder deterents (sp) somewhere in there. Put the scary doll in the window and your possessions will be safe as houses.0 -
