Worst/Strangest Christmas Present!

  • ooo just thought of another my friend's mother bought her two year old grandson the cheapest set of market toy cars I have ever seen. Not only did it say on the box they were not suitable for under 3's but they all fell into tiny bits during that day.
My friend was just happy that she had bought him anything as normally she doesn't bother...
  • My OH once bought his mum a set of metal handcuffs for her birthday as a joke "to keep the grandchildren under control." That would have been alright if he had got something else as well but that was her only present. It was lucky I had bought her something too.

We ended up with the handcuffs and it became one of the kids favourite games to be handcuffed up by daddy. They used to beg him "daddy, handcuff me up." It was fine until the day the lock jammed and it was panic stations for a bit trying to get youngest son unlocked. They went in the bin after that.

I have had a variety of presents from him, some lovely but some truly awful. One of the ones I hate the most is a large clumpy wooden jewellry box. Unfortunately the stall holder saw him coming-they usually do- and he paid over £50 for it. It makes it harder to get rid of it without him getting uptight about it. I have managed to lose it into my sons room but even he isn't keen on it.

My OH's family spend a fortune on presents for him and he brings back loads of large gift bags full of presents for him to open on Xmas day. There is usually a big bag of presents for my daughter too from them. And me? I got a £10 New Look voucher off his mum last year (first time she had bought me anything at all during the 10 year we been together) and a smellies set off off his bro and sil which never got used.

For my birthday his bro and sil sometimes forget altogether and this year was no exception but then a few months after they came down and we all went out for a meal and they all had big lavish dinners etc and his bro paid for it and OH said he told him he had paid as he hadnt got me anything for my birthday. My meal came to about £4.
  • My mother-in-law once bought me the worlds worst lingerie, it was like something Ange Watts would have worn on Eastenders back in 1986, god knows what she was thinking! Aside from the total inappropriateness of trying to encourage a night of passion with her son the thing looked like something off a market stall!
  • My mil always get me very odd presents....i once got a belly dancing kit(it came complete with dvd and little chimes to hold in your hand)-i was pregnant with our ds at the time!! Now i ask for vouchers so i can go and get something i actually want.

I have had a small boat (think it was an ornament for the bathroom?) with a label saying 'Warning: not a toy' on it so I couldn't even play with it in the bath that was given to me by a friend, and my ex-MIL gave me several tacky pressies, the worst of which was an applique picture of flying ducks in a frame. She gave her other DIL the same and for some inexplicable reason, she loved it!! Told her she could have mine too so she could have a matching pair!

Just remembered the Garfield earring and necklace set that my ex gave me (when I was in my twenties!!) that was Argos children's jewellery. He knew I liked earrings and Garfield - aah, the leaps of logic that men often show!!

Before I was married OH for some bizare reason gave my mum a fancy looking bottle of balsamic vinegar.. she looked at him like he was crazy (mum wasnt the best cook so thought he was being sarcastic) next Xmas she gave it back to him all lovely and wrapped... it turned into a joke, for years every xmas the bottle of vinegar went back and forwards between them.

Mum gave OH the bottle of vinegar the xmas before she died so he got stuck with it.. we know she's up there laughing that she won and he got stuck with it. It sits in our kitchen on the windowsill, I laugh and think about her everytime I look at.

I seem to choose husbands that are rubbish at pressie buying! When my first husband and I bought our first house, the first christmas he bought me a ladies spade. He didn't even try to disguise it-the wrapping paper perfectly outlined the shape!
A few years ago my second husband asked me to do a wish list on amazon as I love books. I put some scrapbooking and crafting books on their,in great anticipation. Christmas morning the big fat book under the tree turned out ot be..........

    a book about meerkats!
This year for my birthday he said he was very excited to see my reaction to his presents.
He had bought me a no-oil chip maker and an instant tea maker.
Better than a book on meerkats, granted, but still.............
Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!
  • For our first christmas in our first home together my ex oh gave me and electric knife and an iron! I was not impressed!!

Worst offenders in our family is my SIL she always gives our kids second hand stuff - one even got a Star Wars book (years after it was out and he hated sci fi) with one of her son's names in the front! Her presents always go straight to the charity shop in January.
