using ccleaner on registry?

Hi, I have installed ccleaner and used the cleaner part ok.I have never tampered with my registry,and would like to know if the ccleaner reistry tool is safe to use, or are there any do,s or don,ts? Any advice would be most grateful

I use CC registry cleaner on a regular basis, and as yet it has never caused any problems.
If you decide to go ahead and use it, make sure that you follow the prompts and make a registry backup before deleting anything.
THis will be saved in "my Documents" as a "registration entry" file, and if you want to restore the registry to its pre-cleaned state, all you have to do is to double click on the icon.

Why exactly are you thinking of doing a reg clean?
If the computer is fairly new and not having any slow running problems then I wouldn't bother using it, but if it's more than about 6 months old and running a bit slow on some programs then it may help speed it up a bit.

If you are in the slightest bit worried it would be best to get someone who has used a registry cleaner to have a look at it before you run the program. (You can run it and look at the log before deleting anything and then decide not to complete the process)

Yes, the CCleaner registry cleaner feature seems to be safe to use, since it is less aggressive than some others.

But at Shaun says, why bother? I've never seen any study which indicates that you get any measureable performance improvement from cleaning the registry - and you might not even recover a MB of disk space!

If the computers running slow the registry cleaner will sometimes remove a registry which suddenly speeds the computer up (rare, but ive had a few of these)

Hi Shaun, thanks for reply.My laptop is about 18 months old, no problems as such, just thought it may be a good idea to use the registry tool.I,ll do a analyze and see what comes up, is it only for specified problems and not as a regular tidy up tool? As you use it on a regular basis, is there a reason?my pc,s running fine.speed varies up to 5mbs on a good day, about 2 normally, but I don,t think it,s pc, I think it,s exchange, AOL:::I like to try and keep pc tip/top,cheers

Download MALWAREBYTES (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
Open malwarebytes and goto UPDATE and click 'check for updates'. After its updated goto SCANNER and click PERFORM QUICK SCAN then click SCAN
Remove everything thats found (needs to be ticked)
Post the COMPLETE log here AFTER youve deleted everything it finds
If anything was found then do the exact same but run a FULL scan

Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')

(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)
If you get a message that you cant write to the hosts file then Press the SHIFT key, and whilst holding it RIGHT CLICK and select RUN AS (admin)

Hi ERiK, done assaid, but as you can see, old logfile, asked to replace it, but still brings it up?

I have used the reg clean about a thousand times with no problem.
But as to deep registry cleansers steer clear as they may break your machine and the size of the registry and they way it works it does not speed up your machine if cleaned .

Open malwarebytes and goto UPDATE and click 'check for updates'. After its updated goto SCANNER and click PERFORM QUICK SCAN then click SCAN
Remove everything thats found (needs to be ticked)
Post the COMPLETE log here AFTER youve deleted everything it finds
If anything was found then do the exact same but run a FULL scan

Hi, Sorry, but cannot save new log.Getting message, right clicking, but no run as admin, only brings up the file shown, which was 06/10.even right clickingv on icon, still nogo.as admin.What am I doing wrong???

I am no expert on PCs so have usually steered well clear of messing with the Registry. CCleaner is recognised as doing a "gentle" clean so you should be okay. But, in my opinion, the chances of messing up something outweigh any benefit you might get from doing a registry clean. If your PC/laptop is running slow there are other far less risky steps you can take (virus scan, malware scan, increase RAM etc.).
