Hi, this is the Daily Thread for xx (add date). This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the
Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Good morning everyone  We had a lovley time at the bonfire and fireworks last night. We went with friends,so great company too :D

I got my sloe gin going, and I'll be buying dried fruit today to put into soak for my Festive Baking :)

DD is off shopping with her friends today (I'm collecting them all and dropping them at the station to get the train) then I'm taking DS for a look around a 6th form college. It's had a major revamp, and has lovely new science labs, but doesn't offer Politics or Economics, one of which he was hoping to study, too :( We're off to see another on Wed - decisions, decisions .................

Looking forward to Strictly this evening, then I have a DVD to watch with the children :)

Have a great Old Style day, everyone :A

Gosh that takes me back, I did economics at A level. No idea why, I thought it sounded interesting :o lets just say it wasn't a subject I excelled at but at least now I understand the price elasticity of demand ;)

    Morning my lovelies :D

Having our little firework display this evening, H didn't get home from work til 11pm (he'd been there since 8.30am) but the overtime will always come in handy. Good job we've waited til tonight as it's supposed to be drier today :)
Plans for today are yet more Xmas Crafting (this is NEVER ENDING!), pick up a cat scratching post for my mum from someone on Freecycle and try and get some housework done. Not easy when kids are home AND H, everything is so much more untidy when H is home.
I fancy hot dogs for tea tonight. a bonfire night tradition. I've not got any hot dog rolls so perhaps it's time I had a go at making my own, only ever made a loaf or dough for sweet buns :o

Hugs, spoons and high fives all round. Have a good day OS or not.

    Morning all

Mild here but still too dark to see what else the weather is doing. Can't believe I'm up soooo early when I could be having a lie-in, DH up early at stupid early o'clock so got up and made us both a brew - now can't get back to sleep, so enjoying the relative calm before the boys get up.

Was productive yesterday, managed to get shopping bought with cash, no scary moments at the till either, so now much happier to do this, only spent £65.00 and did manage to get some alcohol and meat for roast. I know that's more than a lot of people but it's a good start for me! Continued with the washing, drying and ironing, changed our bed, will try to get boys beds done today.

Visited the scales also and have managed to lose the 3lb I'd put on so now really going to have a strict few weeks to see if I can get this last stone off before Xmas, would be great if I could - then I could settle into just maintaining the weight.

Did get some baking/cooking done yesterday, made dozen twinks, dozen mince pies, dozen maids of honour, and a large victoria sponge with chocolate filling - family all happy that the tins are full again!

Dad took DS1's bike to be serviced Thurs and collected it yesterday, took DS1 and DS2 to collect bike as DS2 is having a new bike for X**s so he could try for size whilst they were there, nothing suitable in his size, so he will be going to another store to try there. Boys going out with dad later, to watch stock car racing then fireworks, few hours alone with DH - that doesn't happen very often, nice bit of adult time.

Boys playing rugby tomorrow so early start for DS1 as match away, another early start, ho hum, never mind, at least they have some interests and the exercise does them good.

Need to crack on - I will get these X**s items wrapped!

Heading for a nice hot shower and brekkie first tho.

    Have a great weekend everyone.

Not much else to say really, keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.

Hubby & I had a lovely meal at the local carvery last night as it was the anniversary of when we met, it was £10.50 for the 2 of us as we ate early so as to qualify for the early bird discount.
Today will be full on OS, housework, cooking & baking etc, I think the washing will have to be dried in the TD as it is damp & overcast here & we don't have the heating on as it's very mild.
Hubby will be glued to the TV this afternoon & tomorrow afternoon as it is the Brazilian GP, I'll watch the race on the TV in the kitchen tomorrow as I need to make a batch of soup for my lunches next week & a couple of traybakes to take in for work colleagues, I'll probably make Dorset apple cakes as I still have apples that need using up. I need to make more bunting sometime over the weekend & this evening I shall spend finishing another lap blanket
    Have a good day everyone.

    Morning all.

No bonfire night here for us here in France, sadly. Hope you all enjoyed yours!

Cool here at the moment, and the forecast is not too good for the next few days.

We are off to the local English-run pork farm this morning to stock up with some of their delicious pork goodies, and to meet the nine piglets who were born just yesterday morning. Although I feel slightly guilty meeting the pigs then eating the wonderful meat they produce, at least I know for sure that they are all living the good life. They are completely free-range, then slaughtered locally so no stressful journey packed inside a wagon for hours on end, and the butchering is done back on the farm in spotless conditions. The meat is the best I've ever tasted and they don't charge the earth, either, so I'm delighted to have discovered them!

Anyway, dinner tonight will probably be some of their delicious sausages -what with, I haven't decided yet.

Right , off for a shower to get the day going.

PenPen - I'm looking forward to Strictly, too!

    Have a good day, everyone.

I did stay in last night in the end, but still got to see lots of lovely fireworks from the comfort of my sofa. I have big french windows and I overlook the whol of the town so got to see everyone's private displays :D For some reason here the main display is tonight <insert confused smiley> :rotfl: The main one for the next town was postponed til Tues next week due to the weather so may pop along and watch it from the beach (for free!).

Today I am meeting ex colleagues for lunch and few drinks. I think they are planning an all day session but I won't stay out all day I don't think. There are about 12 people going, and I'm only really friendly with 3 of them. I do feel like I've drifted apart from them as it's been almost 2 years since I left there, but we do have fun when we get together. I'm getting the train in so I can have a few drinks, and secretly hoping to be home in time for Strictly :D.

Not very much OS here today, DW will go on at some point and I'll put the recycling out.

    Have a great day all

    Good morning,

Thank you for your kind birthday wishes for the house elf. I had no internet or landline from 9:20pm on the 2nd of November until late last night, so unfortunately was not able to read or reply to anything. The internet is back on now, but the phone line is awful - apparently it's due to water in a main cable somewhere.

We've just had half term, which as always was more of a damage limitation exercise than anything OS, although we did make shortbread which we shared with friends. Our kitten spent the week learning how to climb to the top of all the doors in the house and shout for help. If we ignore her, she comes down on her own....

    Take care all of you

Good Morning all, bright and dry at the moment .I have to take little DGS Mikey to a bowling party this morning so that ties me up for a couple of hours ,but I'll take my library book and a flask so i won't be temted to wander round the shops in Chatham. This afternoon I think theres a small amount of ironing and thats about all really .Quite a quiet day i think as I have a day off from Uni this week as my lovely tutor has to go on an 'elf 'n' safety thing today .She was a nursing sister for over 20 years until she got the teaching bug so i think she's a very cabable lady and wouldn't endanger anyone ,but bureaucratic boxxes have to be ticked I suppose.
Hope everyone has a good day.
    Cheers chums

Morning all. Sounds like there's lots of fun and eventful saturdays planned.
I'm eating some date & nutella porridge before work, I'm off coffee for now as I've run out :D I need to finish sewing the hem of my work skirt as it almost completely unraveled in the WM... by hand... badly!
Yesterday OH kept quizzing me about jewellery as he was having doubts i'd like my birthday present, it wasn't looking good so in the end he showed me and it was nice, but the opposite of me and what I like :( He'd been trying to choose between three different things and when he showed me photos of the other two they were both gorgeous and he was kicking himself. I feel so awful, I'm so hard to buy for because I'm so particular and I can only wear children's bracelets and I can't wear earrings... He's going to change it while I'm at work, shall cook him dinner tonight to try to apologise for being such a pain in the !!!!.
