Ham is ok. Cheese is ok. But ham AND cheese. That's just profligate. Neither wonder you can't afford to retire ML :rotfl:.

My excel spread sheet calculations indicate that if I ponce my dinner from the local food bank for the next fifty years I may then be able to retire early:p However if I indulge in a Waitrose cappuccino once a month...that will delay my retirement for another ten years. Can someone advise me on this dilemma?

Well... I like to mix it up a bit. Sometimes I have cheese and ham, sometimes with branston pickle, sometimes with piccalilli. Variety is the spice of life.
Money won't buy you happiness....but I have never been in a situation where more money made things worse!

....I know... that is such a good deal. I get one every day from my local mini Waitrose and then stock up on the sell by date reduced food. Waitrose is only expensive if you pay the full wack!:)

Shouldn't that be "spice is the variety of life" although Piccalilli is a rare "treat" for me
I think I saw you in an ice cream parlour

It depends on who's paying. :D
I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.

I don't think this is a good link for talking about retiring early on a moderate income - what this guy calls 'a normal salary' in fact is a salary that goes from $40k to $160k joint income in only 5 years and is at around $200k after 8 years.

Also I think it's a bit of a red herring to talk about 'if you work hard you can retire early'. Plenty of people work hard but earn average salaries. Is there anyone who has retired early on a salary of £25k or so? Is that even possible with smart investing?

I'm doubting my ability to retire much earlier than 65 as I'm not even on the property ladder yet. Bad choices in my early 20s are mainly at fault there, but the huge property bubble isn't filling me with confidence! I'll keep soldiering on though and squirreling money away, can never save too much for retirement I guess :rotfl:
    Savings target: £25000/£25000
