Sometimes it seems people place plenty of emphasis on how to fund retirement but not nearly enough planning on how to spend the new free time.
This is very true.
My OH has already given up hobbies much less found more. and he has started commenting on what other people are watching I(mainly me lol) and saying Victor Meldrewish things.
He will be a nightmare when he gives up.0 -

I subscribe to the view that much of the anxiety and depression being treated in older people is due to the shock of retirement and the lack of adjustment.

I love reading this thread but I am trying not to contribute to it until I am within 1 year of retirement.(apart from now, of course) There are so many inspiring comments on here, I just read and dream.
The 3888 figure is the worst case scenario, I am hoping that if things change,I can knock off a couple of years earlier. Until then, I have plenty of time to work out what to do once retired.
Same here, I've been reading this thread with great interest but not contributing as although I'm a definite Early Retirement Wanna-be - IF my current plan becomes reality, that's 2525 days to go, ie. just under 7 years and think it's a bit too far. Loads could happen in the meantime (including me winning the lottery :rotfl:) but I take solace in the fact that at least it's a single figure. That would take me to 55 and I'd have to fund a gap of 8 years before pension (currently 63yrs)....0 -
