More Ebay Free Listing Days 6th and 7th

Two words come to mind about Ebay right now. No, not those two words, but PURE EVIL. :mad:

Most of the people who flood the site are able to do so using TL. Plus they are possibly more likely to be unregistered businesses. Making people do things manually cuts down on the people who will just try and get round the business registration, and keeps the flood to a reasonable level. If it was all about money, here they are actually restricting the number of items that get listed. And eBay is not a charity - they are in it for the same reason we're in it, to make a bit of money.

I don't think it's that bad at all. It's their way of giving the occasional seller something, not just allowing people to deluge the site fortnight after fortnight with unsellable rubbish.

Decluttering

I listed 25 items this weekend, all books that I just want to get rid of. I hope I don't end up accused of being a business, I'm just trying to find some space!

I tiered when the auctions would end, basically so that 5 would end today, 5 in 3 days, 5 in 5 days etc etc. It made sense at the time but now I'm kicking myself because I forgot that everyone would be too busy listing to bid and my items that ended today (all with starting prices of 5p and postage of about 60p) have gone unsold. Oh well, no fees.

Books unfortunately tend to sell better BIN, particularly if they are part of series etc. I buy a lot more books on Amazon than eBay for that reason.

Even though it's very tempting with free listing days, I very rarely list anything on eBay these days - I'm not selling my DVDs, I've largely sold off my tarot collection, and the market for collectable postcards fell completely flat after the credit crunch and hasn't recovered (which is why I don't have a nice little business of my own selling them , which is about the only thing I'd consider going self-employed to sell). I think there is a lot of weeding going on over free listing days, trying to flush out people who are milking the system (and catching a lot of innocent people out in the process) but this may be why they are trying to restrict who they give free listings to.

On the other hand, I amassed a lot of eBay plus points over the summer by buying lots, so I might be able to help some people out with strategic bids in the next couple of months...

Be careful not to make a loss though, you might as well throw them away.

60p postage, I assume these are leaflet type books then as 60p will only buy you a large letter under 100g 2nd class (51p) leaving 9p for the envelope. Your 5p will be taken, plus more for paypal fees. Even with a micro account you fees would be 8p and a FVF of 1p. You were lucky not to sell as it would have ciost you money.

Ultimately though my 5p items were the ones I just want to go away. For some crazy reason I'm stubborn and won't take them to the charity shop.

If you put them on freecycle someone will take them away for free, you won't have to pay them to take them.
