    Why on earth is anyone talking about Prius? The car is for a 17 year old and Prius is a group 15 insurance! Get real.

    It is a concept called lateral thinking, the Prius was introduced as an alternative to an Aygo/C1/107 as a city car, and one that would probably be suitable for use all the way through Uni/college to the big bad outside world.

    Lets not forget the the Aygo/C1/107 has had lots of reported problems with the clutch and gearbox, sometimes too cheap is just too cheap, and ends up as a false economy.

    Perhaps the VW Fox would be a better choice?

    But free CC, almost free roadtax, 50 or 60 mpg minimum round town, strangely you tend to get less mpg on a run! I personally can see the attraction, and being a full size car it is much more practical and safer.

    Not a perfect alternative for some, but as it won't have to be changed when a new car is needed, also having cheap roadtax and CC free in London, not such a strange choice.

    And as far as I am aware there is no extra battery on a Prius, just the big power pack, and the new plug in Prius is a very different vehicle, just a Prius without the petrol engine isn't it?

    Or does it still have the petrol/electric hybrid system, not sure on that as the fully electric one is just a politically correct publicity stunt in my opinion. And I haven't even looked into it.

    The build is a bit of a led down on the i10 though. Also I am pretty sure the c1 etc has a chain engine too.

    I suppose you know better than the 2010 Auto Express Small Car Awards then, only won in Sept :cool:

    Quote from AE :rotfl:
    It’s a double whammy for the i10! The smallest Hyundai won the city car class in last year’s Used Car Awards, and it’s still on top 12 months later. Solid build quality and vastly improved styling over its bland predecessor – the Amica – make the i10 an attractive ownership prospect.

    Add good visibility and peppy engines, and it’s a great town car. Plus, buyers benefit from the firm’s excellent five-year, unlimited mileage warranty, which can be transferred from owner to owner.

    I can now sleep well at night knowing that :wall:

    You are sure you are right though.

    And another couple! :wall::wall::wall:

    I am sure yes, apostrophes are to show possession not plurals.

    Like here;
    Why not post some evidence or post how many miles you have driven in a Prius, or how much experience do your friends and colleagues have in using Prius'.

    What you mean is Priuses. If you were talking about something belonging to more than one prius then you're right. :rotfl:

    Not normally bothered by people using poor grammar but seeing as you're obviously trying and still think it's right just thought I'd let you know.

    To try and get back on topic! New or used? Both cars are virtually the same (looks are personal - we preferred the Aygo and 4 years ago it was the cheapest of the three for the spec we wanted) so just check specification. Engines and gearboxes are Toyota units which have been round for years with no inherent problems.

    107s are cheaper than Aygos due to the brand, but Toyota dealerships know what customer care is and a few hundred quid may prove invaluable if the car develops a problem (Aygos now have 5 year warranties too). A colleague bought a second hand 107 (08 reg) and it was £1500 less than the equivalent Aygo.

    107s are more expensive to service at main dealers, but any garage can do work on them - to me they are the modern version of the 2CV - built to a price, but do exactly what a car should for very little money.

    I have a Citroen C1 and I absolutely hate the thing. I was seduced by the low road tax and good fuel economy but these are hugely outweighed by everything else.

    The clutch went before it had even done 18,000, I've had problems with the locks and with it letting in water. A search on the internet soon showed me it wasn't that I just happened to be unlucky - it seems many other people have had those problems.

    I find it unpleasant to drive as well with the most uncomfortable seats I have ever experienced. Even though I probably do less than 15 miles a day it gives me a sore back. The pedals also seem to be in an odd and uncomfortable position.

    I've been driving for over 20 years and never before had a car that I hated so much!

    I've had a couple of Fiats in the past and definitely if I was able to change would be looking in that direction again.

    For what it is worth between the C1, 107 & Aygo although basically the same car in my opinion the Aygo seems to look better and seems to hold a better second hand value.

    The thing with lateral thinking is it's supposed to yield something that's a workable alternative. A group 15 insurance car for a 17 year old driver is not a workable solution, unless they happen to come from a millionaire background.

    Hyundai i10's are nice motors, but come in at group 8-10.

    2nd hand Aygo/107/C1 is ideal, buy based on which brand has nearest dealer. But look carefully at insurance side of things...some C1s are group 1, Aygos seem to be 2 or 3 depending on model, 107s are group 3. Tends to lean to the Citroen derivative. End of story.
    I really must stop loafing and get back to work...

    Also worth noting that the insurance group doesn't actually mean that much these days, so probably best to go to a comparison site and get quotes on each.

    If you get one, aygo/c1/107, then dont forget to buy a couple of goldfish from your local pet shop.
    They will live happily in the water that collects in the footwells. Common fault.

    Not that common and there is an extra seal that can be fitted to stop the problem.
