    Hi miserable_ol_so_n_so,

I'm sorry I don't think I have made my post very clear :o.

You appear to have decided to go on to the Price Protection 12 tariff, this tariff offers security that the unit prices will not increase if E.ON have a price increase, therefore, carries a premium, meaning the unit prices are higher than those on a Standard tariff.

We have not changed our standard prices, since the Price Protection 2012 was introduced, so there is no reduction to pass on.

    Helena:)

Thanks Helena, but your post is clear. In case my response is unclear (ignore the another little drink theme), I was merely making an observation that sine EON have not lowered their Standard tarriff, they have failed to pass on lower energy prices to its Standard plan customers as well as to its capped rate customers! As a matter of fact I have just made a comparison, by inputting accurate information about my consumption and found I can move to Scottish Power's Dec 2012 Capped price plan and make a saving!

This I intend doing. If more of us switch when disenchanted with a provider, the provider will have an incentive to pass on cost savings.

  • Hi miserable,

were you automatically rolled over onto Price Protection or did you choose this? Either way, in the confirmation letter you recieved it should have stated that there is a premium on the standard price. I believe this is a rule all energy companies must follow. This ISN'T normally hidden in the t's and c's.

Therefore if this was followed then you should have been aware that you were paying a premium.

That's not to say that I disagree with you saying that prices should have gone down in line with wholesale but that's a different argument!:D

My precise gripe concerns failure to pass on price decreases in wholesale markets to retail customers. I am not complaining about the premoum that existed at the time of the switch. Er are a long way down the line from that point and yet no price decreases for customers. I think I am justified in raising this awareness here.

I think there might be a little bit of confusion here.

    Hope this helps.

    Helena:)

But isn't that the whole point of energy companies having very similar sounding but slightly different tariffs, to confuse customers?

    Are energy prices going down?

I thought Martin & his select bunch of experts suggest energy prices are on the up.

I'm with british gas for my gas & elecricty. I'm on the standard tariff and pay my bill when it comes in. Can you tell me if the E.ON Price Protection May 2012 tariff would be any good for a low user like i am. I've never switched before and have been with british gas since i moved into my new build flat 18 months ago.

    Hi Hank

Sorry, but Helena's not in at the moment so hope you don't mind if I reply on her behalf.

Price Protection May 2012 is a capped product which guarantees the unit prices will not be increased before May 2012.

However, it initially carries a 5.9 per cent premium above our current standard rates. Therefore, in the beginning, it will cost more than our standard product.

We have other tariffs available which are cheaper than both Price Protection May 2012 and our standard tariff, although these may have conditions attached which you consider unsuitable. More details are available on our website.

For the fullest picture, I would pop your annual usage in kWh on to one of the comparison sites. This will list out all the options open to you, both with us and the other suppliers.

Hope this helps Hank. Give me a shout if you need any more details as will be happy to help.

  • Hello Malc, Nor probs with you replying.
E-ON was 3rd behind British Gas Energy Smart & Southern Electric, on the fixed price/capped, if i've understood it correctly. It said for E-On the tariff best for my usage was E-ON Price protection May 2012 Duel Fuel, with a calculated price off £241. but couldn't work out was that price for both gas & electricity. My years usage is 250 kwh a year gas - 950 kwh a year electricity. Don't make it easy with this switching malarky do they lol!!
