EON Standard Plan is cheaper than Price Protection May 2012!

I had been on a Capped Plan 2010 with EON and renewed to Price Protection May 2012 when the term ended. I have today received my bill, and on it, it states that the Standard plan is cheaper by 5.9%! I was given to understand when I chose the capped tarriff that if energy prices rose, my prices would not, but if energy prices fell, my price would fall in line, rather like capped mortgages.
Did I misunderstand?
Did EON mislead me? Or is EON not passing on the price reduction in their standard plan to me and others?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hi! I am currently confused by e.on too. Having been on FixOnline 3 for almost the year they are now offering to take me to EnergyOnline, but looking around there is SaveOnline4 and this Price Protection May 2012 - is price protection a set payment that wont go up like a fixed? (sorry to but in).:hello:0

Hi miserable_ol_so_n_so,
I think there might be a little bit of confusion here.
Capped tariffs normally carry a premium, as it gives you the security that your unit prices will not increase for the length of the tariff.
Therefore, the unit prices are normally a little more than other tariffs, when first introduced.
You are correct in saying your unit prices won't increase if we have a price increase, but they will decrease if we announced a price decrease.
Just to be clear we haven't changed our standard prices since Price Protection 2012 was introduced. Therefore, your unit rates are still 5.9% above the standard rate.
Hope this helps.

Hi azureblue,
First of all when your Fixonline 3 ends you will be changed on to the EnergyOnline tariff, as this is not a contractual tariff. You can change on to a tariff that would offer you the best deal (we can check this for you).
For the Price Protection 12 tariff, It's not the payments that are fixed, as your usage may go up and down, but the unit prices that are capped, so they can't increase if we have a price increase.

Hi miserable_ol_so_n_so,
I'm sorry I don't think I have made my post very clear.
You appear to have decided to go on to the Price Protection 12 tariff, this tariff offers security that the unit prices will not increase if E.ON have a price increase, therefore, carries a premium, meaning the unit prices are higher than those on a Standard tariff.
We have not changed our standard prices, since the Price Protection 2012 was introduced, so there is no reduction to pass on.

Hi azureblue,
No problem at all, but it would be best for me to do it for you individually, you can use the email address in profile page.
I would also recommend as other posters do, to pop your kWh usage in to a comparison website to see how we stack up. I can give you the usage if you need me to.
