Stupid DHL driver.....

Banging on the door at 8.30 am, when I got to the door he had disappeared but his van was outside my gate. So I waited, saw him down the street with my neighbour, when he came back he said, "the parcel's not yours, it belongs down the street".
I asked him if I could see the parcel and it was addressed to someone in the next village (who has a very similar address to me). So I told him "you're in the wrong village" and he said "no I'm not, because your neighbour told me it's this street but further down".
Now I knew he was wrong because this confusion over addresses happens a lot but he was adamant that my neighbour was right and I was wrong. So someones parcel is either going to be lost or delayed because a stupid delivery driver refused to listen.

Yeah, mine's a different whinge but it's part of DHL anyway.
I've ordered some stuff from Estee Lauder. When I order stuff I always check who they are using for deliveries - if it's Royal Mail I can give my work address but if it's couriers I have to give home. So they DHL @ Home which is using local people to deliver parcels locally giving flexibility as they realise that the majority of people are out during the day - so their drivers work from 7.30am to 9.30pm and when you get a card through the door you ring them up and arrange a redelivery at a time to suit you. Sounds great eh?
So I get a card through the door yesterday - that's to be expected. I rang the number on the card, it's a guy's mobile number. I say I'm ringing about rearranging delivery time for a parcel. He says 'I can drop it off tomorrow or you can come and pick it up from my house tonight'.
I'm like 'er that's not convenient, how about Friday?'. His response 'well I have to get it delivered within 3 days depends how much you want it delivered really or I have to send it back, can't you pick it up tomorrow night?'. I'm like, 'er that isn't convenient, although where are you?'.
Turns out he's 1.5 miles away but even so I paid for delivery and the service is supposed to be flexible to suit you. So anyway I told him I would be in on Friday morning but I would be out from 6.30am to 9.00am and again from lunchtime on. He says he can't deliver before about 10am anyway cos he's waiting at home for his own deliveries. So I finally say 'well I'm in on Fri between 9 and 12 waiting for the plumber anyway, can you drop it sometime during that time?' He begrudgingly agrees.
Geez! I don't quite call that rearranging to suit me, more like to suit him! If I hadn't have already booked Friday off he basically told me I'd have to go to his house to pick it up or it would be sent back!!!!
I will be giving feedback to Estee Lauder on this! Much prefer they used royal mail cos either I can have it delivered to work or it will get dropped at the depot where I'll have about 2 weeks to pick it up and we all know exactly where we stand!0 -

its cheap for DHL
the courir is working from home and fielding the calls
so DHL just drop the stuff off
its cheap for Estee Lauder as they get low prices
the courier doesnt get a lot per parcel so you can see they arent gonna drive all over the shop to fit in
no such thing as a free lunch0 -

Your lucky he even left a number. I had a missed delivery card from DHL @ Home (they seem to be changing their name to Yodel) and none of the boxes to say what they had done with the parcel were ticked and the box with a contact number was blank.
It had a central DHL number on the back so I phoned that and got through to an automated service to arrange delivery so I did it for a day when I would be it (for 2 days after the original delivery). The delivery guy completely ignored that request and tried to deliver it again the following day, luckily a neighbour took it in this time.
I really hope Amazon arn't going to be using these idiots more and more now. Although HDNL were bad, they at least told you what they had done with the parcel, and tended to deliver late afternoon when I am in. You can't even guess who Amazon are going to use anymore as stuff that is the size they would normally send by Royal Mail now seems to sometimes be sent by either HDNL or Yodel.0 -

you may find an increase in Amzon using RM
Amzon are trialing RM's Tracked service
they are using it a fair bit for small to medium packages
however if they continue then could send a lot of their products up to RMs max size/weights0 -

All that is fair enough but the supplier should not advertise the delivery as being so flexible when it's not - or, as I suspect, it's as flexible as the person doing the deliveries wants to be. It's not my problem or business what the courier is getting per parcel.0 -

As far as I'm aware, although it's been a little while since I ordered anything, Amazon are still using RM for my area (good!). Another one which suits me (which see my post above might be to do with the particular courier being flexible herself) is Hermes as they are happy to throw stuff over my back wall (I think only if you've specified it as a safe place though - not all companies ask that when you order online).DHL have a policy not to which is fair enough, or is it Estee Lauder who instruct DHL accordingly?

the problem is a lot of home drivers do it as it fits around their own life
so its not so much inflexible as the hours they have
it suits DHL as its often folks who cant do a standard FT job and the pay accordingly
RM talked about doing the same a few years ago
mum drops the kids at school and then RM drop off a delivery round at her house to deliver0 -

I know, but what rattled me was he was obviously unprepared to deliver outside of daytime hours and actually expected me to go to his house to pick up either last night or tonight, which I find unacceptable!
They are obviously given rules they must adhere to, ie. they try 3 times over 3 days but if they are phoned up and asked to do something differently there must be flexibility there, for instance I would not have been able to have him keep it until Saturday according to him as that would be beyond 3 days so would have to be returned, when I am sure that they have some sort of system to report back to depot and tell them what the customer has asked them to do!
And it would be damned more inconvenient and expensive in petrol for them if I just left them to deliver once, twice, three times than what I actually did do which is ring him up!0 -

but remember they are doing deliveries over a large area
(Ive known DHL drivers covering 4+ postcode areas)
so its not always easy to go to one area for a drop at a set time.
as ive said a lot of these people do it around their lives and as you have found out
its not always good for customer service
all i can say is vote with your money
companies will always pick the cheapest service that works most of the time0
