Its not so bad in the early years as 3 in 3 could say be a pre reg then someone who only keeps it a year but once you get into older cars people do not change every year or 6 months without a good reason and you can guarentee these sort of people will have driven it until they had to get rid.

It sounds worse, 9 owners in 6 years, assuming one had it for 4 years.

It is not always a problem. In the past threes my dads Fiesta has been transfered to me and then back to him. Insurance companies require that the main driver is the named person on the log book so for a few months before I got my Panda I had have the Fiesta registered to me.

We don't ever plan to sell it so it is not an issue.

No mk3 Mondeos have a DPF, not sure about the MK4 though.

Remember that the Tddi is a bit agricultural, and noisy, but is also a much simpler injection system to work on.

If the car drives OK then it normally is, some small home traders buy cars and register them in their own name in an effort to pretend to be a private seller, some people buy the Tddi Mondeo and don't like the amount of noise it makes and get rid quick, some even buy a diesel thinking they will save millions of pounds a year on fuel and find that the Tddi isn't much better than the 1.8 petrol model, so they decide to sell it.

Though not all people will sell a car when it is about to blow up, some just want a change, though as said there are plenty Mondeos out there.

If you are worried you could get an AA inspection done.

But as far as tracing the previous owners and checking MOT databases, are these people for real, it isn't a Ferrari, it is a diesel Mondeo, if it drives OK with no funny noises, and nothing shows up on hpi, you can give the mileage and it will flag up if the mileages at MOT time don't match up, or at least it did the last time I did a hpi check a couple of years ago. Then buy it.

If it drives like it has four flat tyres and smokes like a chimney then walkaway.
