10 owners in 10 years?! Dodgy or not?

The best thing to do OP is get the names and find out why they got rid.
Can be innocent - my sister got a job in the USA, and asked me to store her motorbike for a year or so while she was away. I had to re-register it into my name to get it insured against theft, then when she returned we put it back into her name for her to get insurance to ride it. Then she got a renewed contract for the US job and we did the whole thing again. So looking at the V5 the bike has had 6 'owners' , when the actual number is really just two.0 -
Funnily enough my current car is also a Mondeo TDCi Ghia and it's had 6 previous owners and is only 6 years old. Been completely fine in the year I've had it and the last MOT it failed on just a faulty bulb. I drove 36k last year in it, all trouble free, but go with your instincts as there's a lot of Mondys around.
I think my DMF may be on its way out however!:A0 -
Can you work out from the MOTs how many miles the last owner's done? If its a fair few it'll be more reassuring. The fact that the last owner had it 4 years leads me to agree with Harvey.0

It has been a constant 10k roughly per year, i will try the dvla person check thing....do i ring them or can i do it on the web?0 -
The last owner had it for 4 years?
My thoughts would be that someone who buys a 4 year old Mondeo will be someone who will get rid when it starts getting expensive to run, or they know that an expensive fault is developing e.g. DPF or DMF. Not sure if 2001 Mondeos had either of those though.
What's the actual mileage? 90,000?0 -
Mondeo's dont have DPF's, but they do have DMF's. Which aint too costy to do these days.
You have to write to the DVLA "info from records" section. But they are a bit funny about it these days as you have to give a really good reason why you want the info.
As a Dealer we just tell them we are taking the car in PX and want to write to the previous owners to verify the mileage. Buit even then they want a short paragraph about our company.

10 owners in 10 years, I would not touch it.A problem shared is a problem multiplied.

I bought a Golf once that had had 6 owners in 6 years, I kept it for 2 and for most of that time it was a complete disaster. A real Friday night car if ever I've driven one, if it could go wrong, it did go wrong.
So my instincts would be to avoid - it may be entirely innocent, but most people keep a car longer than a year, if its continually changing hands then the suspicion is that is has some horrendous unfixable fault.0 -
I had a Mondeo a few years back, the reason I sold it was due to the amount of Diesel it was getting through, I only ever bought it as runaround till I could save for something better.
It was a lovely car inside and out and drove brilliantly on the motorways, just ate too much fuel.#JusticeForGrenfell0 -
10 owners, in 10 years..... For every owner that increases chance of it been driven hard and not cared for (f*cked).
If a prospective partner had been married 10 times, would you be so keen?“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
