Signed For service is what you mean, I think, which replaced Recorded (which replaced "Registered" sometime just after WW2...) Not tracked real-time, only insured to 100 x value of a First Class stamp (so £41 currently), no compensation backed guarantee of delivery timescale.0

well you have special delivery, recorded delivery,RM tracked 24,RM tracked 48
Well - all I was told was that 2 parcels of books sent by Waterstones went missing when in the hands of Royal Mail - they were sent by Waterstones by Recorded Delivery (I am guessing) and never arrived at the destination
Apparently - my Mother in Law notified Waterstones 7 days after the order date of the non-arrival - Waterstones tried again - same result.
Eventually Waterstones refunded her in full.
Is that better ?0 -

Royal mail still call it recorded (actually it's Recorded signed for).
Sending something by recorded post doesn't increase the compensation limit. This limit of £41 is also applicable for standard 1st or 2nd class post.0 -

ive never known large companies like waterstones to use recorded on a standard delivery.
its added cost and means customers only have 7 days to collect and missed delivery.
i dont know why you are taking this personally by adding my username in some form of slight at me.
if you like i can add you to ignore.
you touted 'registered mail' as some bastion that should be held on a pedestal
perhaps Waterstones had the wrong address, had a problem with their fulfilment, misprinted the labels
of course the easy answer is its down to RM.0 -
whilst i agree with the sentiment of your post.
i cant agree on the argument of how much money RM are paid to deliver it
infact also a few more things
how many other carriers are regulated like RM of liable for massive fines from the regulator?
compensation of £41 seems reasonable?
the options is there for higher valued items
why would cometitors want to go into competition when they can use the DSA network?
When it all adds up, RM seem to the average man in the street to be paid an awful lot to deliver anything.
If RM are regulated by a regulator who actually regulates on behalf of the consumer, how come they are still in business?
And £41 compensation for loss due to incompetance is not a good level, whilst the options are there for increased cover, they are not available on standard or Recorded Signed for Services like they should be.
I have no idea what the DSA network is.
All i know is friend of wife is out of work, been desparately looking for a job and last week had two interview invites delivered by RM after the interview was due to take place. Theres no way you they can defend that.
All IMHO.....0 -

And £41 compensation for loss due to incompetance is not a good level, whilst the options are there for increased cover, they are not available on standard or Recorded Signed for Services like they should be. recorded signed for is not a fully tracked service.RM offer a fully tracked service with up to £2500 cover and consequential loss cover.if you need extra cover then you use the correct service..i really dont see your point on this one. you want how much cover for a 41p stamp?
I have no idea what the DSA network is.and that! is the problem
All i know is friend of wife is out of work, been desparately looking for a job and last week had two interview invites delivered by RM after the interview was due to take place. Theres no way you they can defend that. well i can,in a way.the slash and burn RM is performing.people have sat on the sidelines sniping for years about cutting costs, privitising, savings etc.yet thought there would be no knock on effect
All IMHO.....
so lets get onto DSA,which you have no idea about.yet say competition would be a great choice for you.
DSA is downstream access. A competitor to RM can tout for trade and undercut RM(RM have regulator limits on how the bid for contracts and prices they can offer) as they can price as they like.
they then collect this mail from the customer and go to an RM mail centre. thats it,from then on in its RM problem.RM get a payment from the company using the DSA network.this is set by the regulator.RM lose money on nearly every piece of DSA mail it handles.it is also responsible for returning any of these items for gone away, not known etc
the competitor need do nothing. competitors can also send packets under DSA.
so start looking at your mail, see all the competitors marks on the envelopes and see how much is being sent by DSA.
how many TNT,citipost,DHL,UK mail, secure mail et al posties have you seen on delivery?0 -
Going back to the original point, I haven't heard of any wildcat strikes in any part of the country, So I'm assuming that maybe there hasn't been any post for you or your neighbours for a while. The next possibility would be your part of the walk might be covered on overtime making for a later delivery. Please contact your nearest delivery office for any confirmation of this.
Missing Recorded delivery parcels from Waterstones. Did Waterstones give you a tracking number? If so, it would still be valid on the RM website. It would be easy for a company to say we have sent it, but it may have been out of stock and they could be using RM as an excuse. Remember the days of 'the cheque is in the post'?I'm back after a break :money:0
