Royal Mail

Has anyone else noticed the lack of postal deliveries recently
We have received no mail since last Thursday - this is unusual and I have not seen any post-people on the rounds - I suspect that there may be a strike on locally (Somerset) - can anyone deny or confirm this ?
If there is no strike on - Is there any requirement/law being broken by Royal Mail in failing to deliver mail daily ?
Even if the normal post-person is ill - the managers should do the delivery ??

You don't live in Greater London by any chance do you? I think there is an issue again (another of those 'quiet' strikes) as I've had no post now for 3 days and there has been no sign of the postman at all.

why not contact the local office rather than post here?
the chances of someone being online who can answer this is very slim
there are laws on mail delivery however this has caveats
    anyway,havent you heard?
mail volumes are dropping all the time
5% in the last 6 months
    maybe its all yours

    Operational modernisation

We’re investing £2 billion to modernise our business, to maintain a reliable and effective mail service to our customers.

A major part of our Operational Modernisation programme involves the review and re-organisation of delivery routes at our delivery offices, to make them more efficient and balance workloads. Next week, delivery route revisions will be introduced at a number of Delivery Offices around the country, these include:

    North London area offices (N5,6,10,13,15,16,19,21 & 22)
South East London area offices (SE2,7-9,10-12,14,17-20,23,24,26-28)
    Wakefield (WF1-4)
    Inverness (IV1-5,13)

    any yours?

    No unfortunately.

My area is a bit odd, I'm quite used to seeing a senior bod turn up in a car park outside and deliver things just to a few houses
I know he is management as I spoke to him once and asked if my regular postie was OK. He said yes, but was doing a different walk which left some houses without cover hence him having to do certain houses on his way home.

Still, mine has just arrived..by car

This problem is so bad at the minute in the Crewe and Nantwich areas that the local MP said :-

“This is the single, biggest complaint I’ve had since becoming an MP – and it’s coming from the length and breadth of the constituency,”.

    See the news article here:

    http://www.crewechronicle.co.uk/crewe-news/featured-stories/2010/11/10/complaints-flood-in-as-crewe-s-postal-service-reaches-breaking-point-96135-27628212/

My post not arriving is a mild irritation considering how much money Royal Mail are paid to deliver it, but businesses in the area must be really suffering and its the same old shrug off by Royal Mail.

I now make it my mission to not use them as much as I possibly can and personally think that if they had the slightest bit of serious competition, they should and would be out of business.

Royal Mail management are perhaps the most incompetant people in the country, plus they have no customer service capabilities whatsoever and by law seem to be able to get away without being held accountable for delivery times, whilst having compensation levels at incredibly low and out of date rates. Its the staff on the ground and all of its customers who I feel sorry for. Roll on the day where the consumer has a choice.

Heres looking forward to another week of no post.......

whilst i agree with the sentiment of your post.
i cant agree on the argument of how much money RM are paid to deliver it
infact also a few more things
how many other carriers are regulated like RM of liable for massive fines from the regulator?
    compensation of £41 seems reasonable?
the options is there for higher valued items

why would cometitors want to go into competition when they can use the DSA network?

My Mother-in-Law has had two parcels go missing in the last month - both books from Waterstones - both sent by Royal Mail - by registered post - neither actually arrived .....
